Guys-- is it different to have a hot sister as opposed to an average looking sister?

Two of my male roommates have 19 year old sisters.

One of the girls in question is average looking. Her brother talks about her and when I first met her he introduced her as "My little sister Emma." He seems to care about her an average amount and take an average interest in her life.

The other girl in question is hot. Her brother is always checking up on her, especially regarding her dating life, and is very protective of her. When I first met her there were guy friends meeting her for the first time, and she was introduced as "My little sister Leila, and guys don't you dare try anything, she's off limits." When people comment on her looks he seems proud, but if people (mostly guys) make inappropriate jokes about the things they'd do to her, my roommate gets fairly upset and tells them not to talk about his sister like that.

My 18 year old little sister is hot so I'm fairly protective of her, but I imagine it's a bit different for a brother.

I have two older sisters. One is a pretty gymnast and the other was a dancer and sponsored model.

Since they are a few years older than me, it was them who looked after me. One of them is married to a BIG army guy, so I no longer worry about watching her. The other is dating, and there have been few times where I have warned her dates that if anything bad happened to her, I'd hold him responsible.

I can relate to the brother who "has a hot sister" as you quoted from. Because nobody really knows how disrespectful it is when someone makes a comment about how hot your sister is, when your in the same room. Be respectful and just say "shes pretty", that will cause no problems.

There have been times where I've warned my friends not to tell me their thoughts about my sister or else I'll kick their ass. I've taken Kung-fu for many years, and they all know I can beat their ass whenever I want. (you got to have some backup, right?)

I don't know what it's like from a sisters perspective for having a "hot" sister. But from a brothers perspective, it's ALL ABOUT being there for her and making sure people/friends talk about her in a great deal of respect.

Telling someone their sister is hot is VERY disrespectful.

But here's the thing - you'll talk about how hot OTHER girls are, but your sister is off limits? Even though the other girls are daughters and sisters - it's okay to disrespect them, but YOUR sister it isn't okay to disrespect?

For some reason my sister despises anything that has to do with me. For example, in May my brother is getting married in Minnesota, and we live in Michigan, and when my mom told my sister that I would be riding with them on the way over to Minnesota she responded with, "I don't wanna be in the same car as (my name)." So, I have grown to pretty much hate her and I couldn't care less what happens to her.

As for her looks, I really don't think about that kind of thing. I don't have a "hot" sister and if I did, I wouldn't see her as being hot, and her looks wouldn't make me any more or any less protective of her. Clearly I'm not protective of her at all, but if she was supposedly really hot, I still wouldn't give a rats ass what happens to her, and it's because of the kind of person she is. I also really hate it when people say that just because she's my sister I have to like her, or I have to be protective of her. I say f*** that. A person, regardless if they are related to you or not, earns respect and earns the privilege (not right but privilege) of being protected by someone. It's not something that is automatically handed to you simply because you are related to them by blood.

I know I'm defensive as heck for all three of my younger sibs, their looks has nothing to do with it. I know they're all capable of fending for themselves.

I've been told my brother is attractive, but, yeah- he's my little bro- I don't see it. Though I've had girls 'death glare' me for appearing out of nowhere and being all congenial with him. (granted they have no idea who I am- we don't look related at all)

I think I tend to be defensive of him slightly different than the sisters. Its more of a "I know this chick is psycho, I see her intents her, like hell are you falling in this trap." vs the "that guy is being a creep." kind of defense.

Both the sis' are lovely in their own rights too (differently, they don't look much alike...actually none of the 4 of us look very alike)

I kinda feel like the ugly duckling of the 4 sometimes, but anyways-

I don't think it'd make any difference if they were less attractive- they're my little sibs, I'm going to stick up for them if I see trouble going their way. I think when you know a sib may get un-desired attention because of their looks, its just a preliminary defensiveness that goes up because you know its coming. It just shows quicker.

Sisters looks don't really matter to their siblings. What they are trying to protect their sisters from is how other people may react to them or treat them.

My boyfriend is this way with me. He had average looking gfs and never really worried about them.

He sees how men look at me and are always advising me to be safe.

When you care about someone you don't want to ever think they could be in harms way, they are just doing what's natural, protecting their sibling.

When someone is hot or very attractive at first glance, people usually think one thing "I want to f*** her." No sibling would ever feel comfortable hearing that.

Nah, I think it varies more depending on the brother's attitude and how protective they are. I have many friends with brothers and some of them don't care what their sister does, while others are constantly checking up on her. Some guys are even protective of their little brothers and don't want bad girls messing with him -- not every guy high fives his brother and says, "It's cool that she's using you, because you're getting laid, man!" Guys do look out for each other, but its more private.

my older sister is a pretty attractive girl, I would never really be protective of her unless she told me to. I don't like when my friends comment on it though, not that I'm over protective but because its so awkward when they do, I'm not used to thinking of my sister like that lol. During secondary school I used to have guys trying to get on my good side just so they could try get in good with my sis, it was pathetic. I'll only ever be protective if there are guys hitting on her and she's already dating someone. Like one time there was a party on for one of her friends and we were all there and there was random guys hitting on her and she had a boyfriend at the time so I just told them to f*** off or whatever. It's actually weird, before that party my sis warned me not to try anything with one of her friends because all guys do because she has massive boobs, I was like 'wtf looooool'

you and I are very similar. I had guys trying to get on my good side too, just because they wanted my sister. The cool thing was my sisters typically dated BIG guys, so all I had to do was tell their boyfriend about a guy who was hitting on her... ah, they'd be so dead. lol

Two things: your sister is nothing special looks-wise. There's a difference between actually being hot/pretty and just being average but knowing how to style yourself. Guus can tellyou the difference and your sister is the latter. Secondly...

When I was a teenager, my younger sister was quite the looker. My guy friends used to tease me about it and quite a few liked her. But at the end if the day it didn't change the fact that I had very little respect for her and didn't like her. We didn't get along very well because she fell in with a bad crowd at a young age and made the whole family pay for it.

I disagree. I think her sister is a very attractive girl without all the makeup. She has natural pictures up, or she did last month. There's definitely something special about her.

My friends sometimes think my sister is attractive (2 years younger than me) but its my sister so I can't really see her that way. I definitely keep boundaries between my friends and her. I don't allow them to date her, which they fully understand and respect, and they all know not to say anything bad about her. We don't hang much so its not really an issue, my friends have met my sister only a handful of times. Older brothers are obligated to look out for their little sister. Fortunately for me, my sister rarely leaves the house and its rather anti-social so I don't really have to do the whole, pick her up when she's drunk, fight off crazy guys, make sure she's safe at a party, etc. sort of things. I have it pretty easy for an older brother.

Brothers tend to not want to hear guys making comments about their sisters. It makes them uncomfortable because it puts their sister into the context of sexuality and that is not something brothers want to associate with their sisters.

So, I don't know that guys have less interest in a sister because of her looks, but a guy might have more cr*p to put up with if his sister gets a lot of attention.

"Is it different...?" No, not really. My lil' sis was plain, then turned hot, then got married when I was in the Navy. She is still married after 25+ years, thankfully.

I was protective of her then as a kid, then as a teen girl, then as a young adult. I'm just not quite as protective now that she's got her own built in protector

She's my lil' sister. Protecting or looking out for, however you want to put it, is what big brothers do.

Hot or plain or a mix of both.

The cold truth of the matter is: The older brother's realize that as an attractive girl, she's going to be getting more attention and getting hit on more than a less attractive girl. Now obviously the two brothers can't be directly compared as they are two different people/families in two different situations. Also, it could just be the brother being over-protective of her and it's nothing to do with her looks.

Some brothers are protective (like dads), others just don't bother with it.

I'm very protective of my older sister. Very. Personally, I think she's gorgeous and all of my male friends have found her to be too growing up. She, on the other hand, is only protective of me when a stranger is trying to hit on me.

Our older brother is not now, nor has he ever been protective of us. Even when we were being disrespected in his face. I'm sure he finds us "pretty" though from comments he has said in the past.

Why should it matter? They both have the potential to screw up their lives with some guy whether they are hot or not in my opinion. Looks shouldn't be a defining factor on how protective a person is. You should be protective regardless! My little brother is only 15 so he has time to date in a couple years but I WILL check up on him daily and give him some sisterly advice.

I'm 28, my sister is 26. When I was young my friends all thought my sister was hot and I told them all they better stay away from her and quit talking about her. Now I can't ever go out with my sister to bars or nightclubs because every time I do she brings guy friends and flirts with them in front of and then I get mad and want to kill whatever guy she is with. Because my mother and sister are great people who have done positive things in their life as well as positive things in the life for other people.

This relates because guys were saying that it was disrespectful for people to look/say things about their sisters, especially around them. I want to know where men get off being protective over their sisters, but tapping any other ass they can get.
