Girls, if you smirk when a guy talks to you, what are you thinking?

I have been talking to this girl for a while and she seems to enjoy it. She initiates most of the time so that gave me the "green light" to initiate a little more (I still try to keep to myself).

So I was talking to her today, kinda teasing her playfully (we used to do it all the time, but somehow we stopped and started just being "nice"). While most of the time she will say something to me or smile, now she was just smirking at me while I did it and kind of playing along. She had to leave so she just said loudly "GOODBYE" and walked away while keeping that smile and her friend started laughing by how she did it.

She was giving that mutual friend a ride home. I don't have her number but I texted my friend and told her to tell this girl something in a playful mood just to give her a hard time. After she said that to her she texted me back and told me that she just smirked (again) when she heard what I had to say.

I like this girl and I feel she at least likes talking to me, but she can be confusing because sometimes she is quiet and when I think I should leave her alone, she starts talking to me and joking and asking me a bunch of questions.

What should I do in this case? Is this a good sign?

Well I don't know, we smirk for lots of reasons. I get that you don't want to make things awkward, but it's clear you like her. If she is smirking and saying loud giggly goodbyes it appears she doesn't dislike you. It seems like you are really asking for certainty to gauge the level of risk of letting her know you like her. It's scary and I do the same with men, but I've learned happiness is found only in our willingness to be emotionally vulnerable without any guarantees. You may worry less about making things awkward if you don't go from teasing to "I like you". Try compliments and doing something nice and see how she responds

Not making fun of her. She tries to play tough and like I'll say stuff like "im thirsty, you should buy me a pepsi", she smiles and says "no" and then I'll tease her on how she "doesn't care" about my thirst and she just looks down or away and has that cute smirk on her face and be like "i dont" or something lol. I don't do it ALL the time, but I like giving her a hard time

I think she likes you but its on you to make the next move. There is a timestamp on how long she will wait because she will either think you don't like her enough to man up or that you are just playing the field as they say.

Its just the way we act with each other for some reason, I can't really explain it, it has always been like that.

I am confident and she knows this but I just don't want to make things awkward, you know? We had some issues a few months ago and we stopped talking and right now we are getting back were we where. I no longer feel I'm walking on eggshells when I talk to her and we have fun, I just wish I knew what she is thinking because some days she is all quiet and I make up my mind to leave her alone but then the next day she is back talking to me, she is confusing.
