Does forgiveness shape how quickly we grow spiritually and intellectually?

I used to wonder why some people matured so much faster than me, and I have concluded that aggression can block spiritual and intellectual growth in your life.

I grew up in a non religious family and I had a very aggressive understanding of religion when I was in my 20s. It took years for God to show me that He is about love, not about aggression.

I believe it's possible, forgiveness is difficult, it requires empathy, but it's a virtuous personality trait.
