This reminds me of a question I answered about considering people "exotic." "Textured hair" is another one of those things you spend your childhood and teens being shamed or alienated over, and then you become an adult and suddenly there are people who exoticize it, want to touch it and think you're "lucky" for having that kind of hair... that is if you're not experiencing job discrimination over it.

You're NOT lucky for having most of the types of hair pictured here (and the negative experiences/comments that come with it). Probably 80% of people hate it and think it is/you're unattractive because of it, at best. Also, if you have the "African" textures, it's hard hair to deal with, which is why many of us straighten it, contrary to popular belief.

People are just so weird about stuff like this. It shouldn't be as much of an issue as it is in any direction. I don't know where this opinion writer is from, so I know it's not as much of an issue in some countries... but it's very negative to have this kind of hair in the US, unfortunately.

Yay-loving the textured hair love, especially the curly love :)
Growing up with curly hair and keeping it natural was hard! There was no one else who had it for so long, even the black girls, influenced by media always had theirs straight and permed. And I didn't know what to do with it, even my mom, who is black, didn't give great advice because hers was often permed.
This natural revolution is amazing (now my mom is natural too and asks me for curly hair help) :)

In this society any hair besides straight isn't seen as beautiful. It's exotic, but it isn't. A lot of people have curly/wavy hair. I wish more people understood that.

Kinky is curly. In fact its the truest form of curl there is. Most of those curls ain't nothing but straight hair with a bump in it
