Men's Fragrances with Sexy Mass Appeal, Part 1 - Chanel Bleu De Chanel

I have just started a pretty impressive fragrance collection over the past year or so, and I am going to offer my take on some of the sexiest, complement getting, mass appealing men's fragrances on the market today. I will offer a few videos from three of my favorite reviewers and a few links as well to help discover the notes and what other people think about the scents.

For this first take in this series, I am going into one of the most versatile and beloved men's cologne's in the fragrance world - Chanel Bleu De Chanel.

INFORMATION/BACKGROUND

As of this writing, the Eau De Parfum bottle in 1.7oz is about $90USD, 3.4oz is $115USD, and the 5oz is $150USD from a department store like Macy's or from Chanel's web store. The Eau De Toilet will run about $10-15USD less than the Parfum. Currently, you cannot find this fragrance on grey market online stores, like my favorite, www.fragrancenet.com

The scent was launched in 2010 and the fragrance was created by perfumer Jacques Polge. It is marketed as a "Woody Aromatic".

The presentation, as shown in the above image, is a very classic looking square dark blue glass flanker with a magnetic top. Its sprayer is above average and puts out a good amount of juice in a nice wide fine spraying mist.

SCENT/SITUATION

The scent is very fresh, clean, and has a citrusy/bergamot/grapefruit, spicy, sandalwood type of vibe. It is a great candidate for a signature scent. It is a very good spring/summer scent, but it can be worn anytime and is very versatile. You could wear this dressed up or dressed down, formal or casual. It is a very frequent compliment getter, especially from the ladies, but some reviewers do claim this scent as being "generic". I would not consider this generic (some of the more seasoned reviewers have commented as such; see the videos below), but it is mass appealing and has an "easy going" aspect that leads me to classify it as a "safe" scent. It smells professional but also sexy. Some reviewers claim this is a "panty dropper" type of a scent, and I can see why, as it smells very seductive for being fresh, clean, and sporty.

It is a very "appropriate" fragrance that is a people pleaser. This fits right in with the theme of "Sexy Mass Appeal" that I am going with this myTake series. It has a sporty, aquatic quality that almost any age group can wear, but I would suggest it to men college age or older.

PERFORMANCE

This one performs really well and can last up to 8 hours and has great projection. Some claim that the Eau De Toilet version has greater performance than the Eau De Parfum, however, the Eau De Parfum is much more concentrated (albeit mellowed), especially in the top notes, like the citrus and mint. I would suggest using a pocket atomizer for the Parfum version to reapply as needed, maybe every 4 or 5 hours.

THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

Both Jeremy and Dracdoc both comment that the EDT is might more bright, lively, and zesty, while the EDP is more mellow, sophisticated, smooth, and has a more relaxed/mature vibe going on. This is claimed to be due to the amber notes that have been added into the EDP. These reviewers prefer the EDT over the EDP due to either the top notes or the performance.

Other reviewers, including MrSmelly1977 and Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews, claim that the EDT is more recognizable, sharp, metallic, and "generic" as it smells similar to other colognes while the EDP is more "interesting", creamy, and sophisticated.

I do not have a bottle of the EDT, so I cannot comment on the differences, but the EDP is an amazing fragrance and it lasts a good 6 - 8 hours on my skin. I would highly recommend Bleu De Chanel as a great addition to any man's fragrance collection and is a definite candidate for a one and only signature scent.

I give it a solid 8.5/10. I would give it a 9 or even higher, but I personally prefer spicier and darker colognes. If you like a sporty, fresh, mass appealing, sexy, compliment getter, that is versatile enough to wear on any occasion and in any situation, then this is a must-have.
