+1 yI live in the Canadian north, we get -20°C to -30°C temperatures pretty regularly between the months of November and march. I have lived here nearly my whole life, so I typically wear a tshirt, pants, and then a winter coat and sometimes gloves, but if you were new to winter like this, i'd suggest long johns (like a long underwear that keeps you warm), gloves, scarf, a toque or other hat, and if its cold enough or you're spending an extended time outside then a second shirt/sweater under your coat and snow pants with thick wool socks and boots.

+1 yI live in North Dakota, and I usually only wear one layer still, adding a coat and gloves when I go outside.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI am always cold. In part due to a medical condition so I don't know if my comment counts but.
I have learned how to layer properly and what fabrics to use. but a minimum of 3 layers ( and that's indoors)319 Reply
Asker+1 yThat counts!! I'm always cold too!! So what would one of your outfits look like, fully layered up? Like what specific pieces would you wear? I'm curious!
Opinion Owner+1 yOkay, not counting normal bra and undies.
First layer:
Silk or thermal long johns (that are not two big, they should fit kinda like a second skin but not restrict your movement) & sock liners
( you will fall in love with this first layer, and wonder why everyone doesn't do this when it is cold)
Second layer:
Either fleece lined leggings and cotton top or fleece lined long johns. Socks with a min of 20% wool
Third layer:
Normal clothes, jeans& shirt , Really whatever you wanna wear.
When I am home I have these ankle bootie slippers that are waterproof and keep my feet super warm!
I also have hot hand and hot toes when when I have gotten chilled
I know it probably sounds crazy but it works, and if the first layers fit right you don't look Insane or "thick".
You may even be able to skip the second layer..
All of my stuff was ordered online so if you want links.. ( just to see what works for me, I can post them)
Asker+1 yWow this was such a useful comment! Thanks so much!!
Can I ask what's the warmest temperature you can still wear long johns in? I've been called crazy before and want to know if I'm not alone lol...
Opinion Owner+1 yIt depends if it's damp out but definitely below 64° for me.
Although that 1st layer of long johns and sock liners are silky and lightweight and also "moisture wicking" so when I'm indoors and it's 72° or 74° and i am moving around doing things I'm not uncomfortable and sweating.
So unless it's hot out I have the 1st layer and then regular clothes.
Asker+1 yWow you're like a warmth superhero :)
I hate hate hate being cold and you're inspiring me to just dress warmer! What do you do if it's like freezing and snowing outside? How do you keep warm then?
Opinion Owner+1 ySide note:
Guys clothes are made so much better and thicker then ladys clothes plus they have pockets that actually fit stuff!
So when I'm just around the house and not going to be seen by anybody.
( I can be a bit of a girly girl)
I have these mens sherpa lined sweatpants joggers and either like a fleece hoodie or a men's fleece lined flannel shirt instead of the jeans and normal top.
Asker+1 yOk last question! What's your outerwear like? Like how do you keep warm if you're going for a walk and it's snowing and freezing outside?
Opinion Owner+1 yAdd a jacket
switch my 20% or more girly wool socks for thick men's hunting socks
Hot toes in my shoes hot hands in my pockets and of I'm outdoors and have gloves on I have glove linners ( like the sock liner) and will stick hot toes in between the glove liner and normal gloves.
Opinion Owner+1 yGetting cold is the worst!! And your body can almost hurt.
For me once I get cold I'm not able to warm up on my own. So if my feet were to get cold when I was outside I can be indoors for over 4 hours and my feet will still be cold.
I use The hot hands in my pockets because it will radiate through your clothes and warm up your body and I use the hot toes in my gloves because they're thin so you don't have this thick blob in your glove and you're still able to function.
Plus if the gloves and hot toes in the gloves don't work I can always put my hand in my preheated pocket
Asker+1 yOk so you haven't invested in a pair of snow pants yet? :)
Opinion Owner+1 yOK walking outside when it's snowing...
Do you want to look presentable? LOL
Coat is from lands end or LL Bean.. Basically just the kind of coat people would wear when they go sking.
Gloves again glove liner, hot toes, skiing waterproof gloves.
Boots also Lands End or LL bean snowboarding/skiing boots... right on the website they can tell you how many degrees below 0 there tested for.
And then quite honestly, if keeping your girlish figure isn't on a concern I would wear my men's men's sherpa lined joggers over layer 1 and 2 ..
Or snow pants.
Opinion Owner+1 yAlso I don't know how much money you have to spend but you can look up
Battery operated heated socks and battery operated heated jacket...
They are for men who go out hunting ice fishing or I guess like your outdoor workers
Opinion Owner+1 yI do have snow pants I wear when I have to shovel and stuff.
I just try to crazy all the time. ;)
Asker+1 yYou are my hero! I'm actually thinking of wearing snow pants to the grocery store tonight just because you inspired me to be warm lol... do you have a pic of your outfit all bundled? I'm curious to see how you pull it off!
Opinion Owner+1 yLOL 😀
I am very happy I could help, staying warm is not easy.
let me know if any of it works for you.
I will try to find a photo for you.
Asker+1 yAwesome, thanks so much for all your advice! You are the best!
Asker+1 yOMG! I tried it yesterday and long johns are amazing!!! I'm going to start wearing them every day, I was out all day and felt warm the whole time, it was amazing!!! I layered socks too lol

Opinion Owner+1 yYay!!! So happy!!! Long Johns are great and I am so glad they worked for you!!
☺☺☺☺😁
Opinion Owner+1 yThanks for the HMO!
by the way the sock linners that I have found are the best are "fox river wick dry"
