Do the majority of girls/women REALLY wear just underwear under skirts and dresses?

So my whole life, I've always assumed girls/women had on small spandex shorts when they wore skirts/dresses.

However, me and my girlfriend went to the beach the other day... and after we were done having fun at the beach, we put on regular clothes over our swim wear. And she just whipped on a dress, above the knee length on top of her bikini in 5 seconds, and said, "I'm ready honey!" And I asked her, "Really? I mean you don't really have anything on under your dress. You have your bikini bottoms, but they just basically look like underwear. Are you really gonna go walk around in public like that?" And she laughed really hard, and said that you're not supposed to wear anything but underwear under a skirt/dress, and that she and all of her friends just wear underwear, and no girl she knows wears shorts or anything else underneath.

It was then that my fucking mind was blown... so every time I saw a girl in a skirt/dress, she most likely only had underwear underneath? It's especially weird in a skirt/dress that goes above the knees. Meaning if only she spread her legs out a bit more, everyone would see her underwear? Does the average women really not care about that type of stuff?

As a guy that's a pretty absurd thought, as the male equivalent of that would be whipping on a long shirt slightly above the knee, wearing only some boxer-briefs underneath, and just going out in public like that...

And as such, I'm here asking to see what the general thing REALLY is.

Is it just simply the way skirts/dresses are traditionally worn, but most women are still bothered and wear shorts? Do most women not care and just wear the underwear?

Maybe I'm just overthinking it. I'm trying to literally relate to girls who wear skirts/dresses with the long shirt thing, when I'm not even SUPPOSED to. Skirts/dresses are a girl thing. Just wearing underwear underneath for in specific girls is normal, and not something guys should relate to.

But maybe my thoughts are reasonable after all

Yes we wear panties under it but in my opinion a woman don’t need to be wearing a skirt so short that when she sits everyone can see her stuff but I wear shorts like tights sometimes during summer cause most girls legs will rub and get heat bumps but for the most part yet women wear nothing but panties under there skirts and dresses 😂 some which is just wrong if they wearing a skirt or skimpy dress way above the knee they don’t wear nothing which is just indecent I mean it’s one thing for a longer dress or skirt but something that short that’s just a hoe hopeing someone would see her when she bends down lol

The ones my girlfriend and her friends wear... they're not super long, but not super short either. They are definitely a good deal above the knees and show a lot of leg, but not so short that they're right below the ass and threaten to flash at every little movement. More like a lot of skin but still relatively modest.

... of course, lmao. A bikini is just basically a waterproof panty and bra. The whole torso is exposed except for the breasts, and there's even some cleavage as well... and all of the legs and even a little bit of butt cheek is exposed.

I know a lot of girls are starting to wear spandex shorts under their dress/skirt including me. In the past I would just wear underwear under it but when it’s windy it’s really annoying and slightly terrifying to hold the dress down especially when all you have on is some underwear lol so I wear shorts under them now just because I feel more comfortable that way.

I can't say that's a good or bad thing... but it's certainly more relatable/understandable, and what I'd do if I was a girl myself.

Wearing a dress with just underwear underneath is pretty much exactly like just whipping on a long shirt over your underwear and just going out in public like that... it's kind of hot, admittedly, but pretty embarrassing, and a bit inappropriate.

So wearing some small spandex shorts is a lot more understandable.

You think so? Hm... I guess it just depends on what you're used to, your life experiences, and the sex/gender you are. For girls, perhaps it's the most normal thing in the world to wear a skirt/dress with only underwear, and none of you give it a second thought.

But for guys... the male equivalent of that really is just a long shirt with only underwear underneath. And it'd be pretty weird for a guy to go out like that... of course the visual is not the same cuz girls in skirts/dresses actually look really cute, but the overall sensation of something loose in which drapes over the legs with nothing but underwear underneath is still pretty similar.

But maybe this whole thing of comparing girls to guys is just some BS of mine... who knows, lol.

Yeah I can see what you mean. I do think it depends on how you were raised because I have never given it much thought. My mom did always make sure I kept my legs closed while wearing dresses. As long as it isn't a short dress I feel like it's okay.

The thing is, it's all about the setting...

The beach/pool is literally the most casual place on Earth, where showing your body is really no big deal. Girls walk around in bikinis, guys walk around shirtless and in nothing but small trunks (at times even speedos), etc...

But in more regular places... still kind of casual but not as much... like school, amusement parks, bars, supermarkets, work, the movies, etc. In those kinds of places you're not really supposed to show that much of your body, so I imagine it'd be kind of embarrassing for someone to see a girl's panties in those kinds of settings.

I never really got to see a girl in underwear putting on a skirt/dress except for my most current girlfriend, so I wouldn't really know what they wear underneath. I just assumed they wore shorts because just underwear just seems a bit too loose and free, and a bit inappropriate.

Underwear is made for extra comfort and to prevent direct contact with the fabric, and keep it from getting smelly... so not wearing underwear daily is counterproductive if anything.
