Why don't girls wear dresses anymore?

Question

I noticed that High school/college girls pratically never wear dresses anymore or better yet, a skirt. If they do wear a dress, it's for a formal occasion. Most girls in High/college usually wear jeans since it's comfortable, but they wear jeans more then dresses now. It's like for every 30 days wearing jeans, once is probably a dress. It's not wrong or anything and it's cool, but I'm just curious. What ever happened to dresses as casual wear for girls. Until the 1970's, all girls pratically worn dresses.

1st of all I live in Chicago (enough said there) second off they’re wayyy more expensive then going to the store and buying jeans and they’re honestly just uncomfortable for the most part and if you wear a dress that also means the shoes have to match you’re hair and makeup has to be done or it just looks odd, it’s just too much effort to do every single day, it would be like telling a guy to wear a suit or polo and khakis everyday

Honestly, I don't mind dresses but there's always the concern of: It's it too short/too long? Am I overdressed? Is someone gonna try to look up my skirt when I walk up the stairs? What if it's windy? And of course: does this make me look like a hoe? (depending on the dress)

Pants are just easier and more practical.

I wear dresses all of the time. I think jeans are kind of uncomfortable. I feel more free in dresses. I think one reason why girls don't wear them more, might be because they don't feel like shaving. I just wear leggings under it if I haven't shaved tho.

Now that spring is here we will see the glorious sun dress very soon.  It really has to do with the weather. If it's cold out a dress provides a lot less warmth and protection compared to pants.

Women felt the need to show their femininity through wearing "girly" attires and that's not an issue anymore. I hate wearing dresses, I don't feel comfortable or myself in them at all.
