+1 yI'm not the type to smile often. So, I've been told by people to smile more. But, I'm the type of person who does things as long as there is a reason for it. Resting bitch face on it's own isn't a problem. The assumptions people make when they RBF are the problems. They assume you are unapproachable, and regardless of whether or not that is true, they should take the time to get to know you before making that assumption. It's an assumption driven by this unrealistic expectation placed on people to be happy looking all the time. They must have forgotten what world they live in. It's hard to smile 24/7 when bills are due, there are always threats of war, and you never know when a doctor miggt diagnose you with something dreadful.

Lol, well I'm merely a man with an imperfect mind, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I'm confident that I hit the nail on the head with this one.

And honestly some people are just more mellow, so just because we aren’t smiling doesn’t mean things are going terrible for us and we are unhappy.

It all just stems from people being way too nosy.
Usually it's guys thinking they have the right to tell us how to be more attractive to them. Or it's women that are so self conscious they'll do anything to make themselves feel better.
Just live your life. If anyone tells you your RBF is a problem and that you should smile, just double down on the scowl and whisper "No" in the creepiest voice possible. They'll either find it hilarious, which could be a good sign, or they'll leave you alone, which is also good. Lol12 Reply
People read into body language and facial expressions, by having an RBF people assume you’re making that face at THEM, and get butthurt.

+1 yTwo things. 1: The Extrovert Bias. 2: Animal Instincts. I experience the extrovert bias a lot because of my RBF and the fact that I have introverted tendencies. Some extroverts (75% of the world are extroverts) feel uncomfortable when they are confronted with a lack of social engagement equated joy. For some, if people aren't fully smiling, laughing, or engaging them in conversation then they can become quickly uncomfortable since extroverts get their energy by engaging with others. Introverts get their energy from. within and find engaging with others draining of their energy. The animal instinct reasoning - different facial expressions send different messages to others. For example, when someone shows their top teeth this is equated with joys and friendliness (non threatening).. showing both sets of teeth is the opposite (threatening) like the phrase "bearing all the teeth). When people have RBF, it sends mixed signals that make people uncomfortable. The facial muscles aren't presenting signs of contentness/joy and agression/threat consistently. This instantly puts some people on edge because the subconscious message is a mixed bag.

Still helpful though right? You can return the favor... I'm dealing with a jerk on a thread where I shared my opinion about women being drafted into the military... I made the point that until sexual assault towards female in the military is brought down to the national average women shouldn't be forced into those situations... he said something a snarky about regret rape... I told him I'm a rape victim.. he is now being a dick about my rape.
- +1 y
Thanks. I've made my peace with it.. it astonishes me that anyone, male or female, can view sexual assault as almost illegitimate in some weird way. Maybe I'm not using the right words, but it is baffling to me that someone can feel so self-righteous about undermining someone's experience with sexual assault.

So true :)
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yIt's alright, I have it too. Last time someone asked me this I said: "My resting face looks like I was possed by Hitler." Everyone says it's unsettling because I have the features of someone sweet but my expressions are intense and intimidating naturally.
But I can't help it, I'm just always thinking and neutral until someone talks to me. Then I turn into a nice fairy princess or living Kawaii plushie. I'd say ignore all the people who try to make you smile and look nice. If that's your face, then that's your face. There isn't anything wrong with it. I always look like these pictures on the regular without trying to.

I totally get where you are coming from and I really don’t get how there are actually people out there that smile 24/7 😂 it must be tiring. To answer your question > there is abonothing wrong with a resting bitch face. If you have a resting bitch face you are a normal human being that is tired of everyone’s shit

+1 yIts funny. You would think that the guys are GaG would tell you to smile more.
I think when you make a post like this, you kind of expose a lot of traditional requirements that men have for women.
"Hey baby, why you looking so pissed off? Smile!"

+1 yI think resting bitch face is either completely unintentional or the person has some inner bullshit rising to the surface and bubbling up into their face.
However, I don't give a shit because I just avoid bitchy looking people because... why wouldn't I? I don't give them shit or get on their case about it. If someone looks stank to you just leave them be and live your life, you don't know them.40 Reply
+1 yOkay. There's being fake... and then there's genuinely adjusting your attitude. Sincerity is the point, not selfishly moving from whatever mood you feel like one moment to the next and expecting the world to revolve around that. This goes for both genders, people that want a long term partner do not usually want to be partnered with someone who has a generally negative attitude about life most of the time, and yes smiling often is usually an indicator that you don't have said attitude.
Believe me, if you don't care to work on adjusting your attitude for someone else's benefit (and thereby your own benefit) then you are not up for the requirements of a serious relationship.01 Replysome people think people need to change to fit their preferences, which isn't right at all. i don't see any problem with having a natural RBF but some people just don't like it for whatever reason. it's wrong of them to as you to change but people will be people, unfortunately.
10 ReplyWhen people tell you to smile, they are not telling you to force a smile, but to try and loosen up a bit.
And if you think RBF is bad, you haven't seen my neutral facial expression. I was compared to a "hatchet killer" several times throughout my life.
My best suggestion is to just roll with it. Try to have a good time, and if someone insists that you should smile, tell them to fuck off.04 Reply- +1 y
Resting bitchface means your neutral facial expression looks bitchy. If your "pissed off" face looks bitchy, that doesn't mean anything.
And my advice is to not get pissed off outright, but give them a warning.
"I am fine, I am trying to enjoy myself, please don't pressure me."
Also, if it is a social occasion, try drinking something, that usually helps people loosen up. But you do you. And if there iy absolutely no solution, retain your dignity, and just put on a temporary smile, say goodbye, and leave. Classier than making a fuss about some idiot annoyng you, and ruining the mood for everyone else.

😂😂😂 i got psychotic before but never hatchet killer
I dont have that resting bitch face. Mine is more , dont fuck with me and i'm good. I rarely smile , why the hell should i smile 24/7 , if i did that would be called a psychopath , and if im not , im the grudge and so on... Just utter bs , as a girl if u smile you're flirting , if you dont , you're a bitch... Its just idiotic , make a face fitting to the situation and you'll be good off in todays society.

A person can't change their face. At least not without some surgery. It's their face. Their bone and muscle structure. It's thousands of years of passed down genes that fought and survived.
If you don't feel like smiling, don't smile. If you're not feeling it, it will show up in the photo. Personally, I like the natural look with genuine feeling. I find it much more appealing if you aren't trying to impress me.00 Reply
+1 yResting bitch face is by no means repulsive to me. In fact it's a bit attractive in my opinion. But I'm also extremely intimidated by anyone with a resting bitch face. I guess I just get this feeling of being harshly judged for my positive/silly demeanor? (Deniceor?)

20 Reply596 opinions shared on Fashion & Beauty topic. bitchy face is not attractive, Period.,. an involuntary one, is not any more attractive, My base instinct is that in a resting mode, if you face is bitchy, you might just be bitchy.. Intellectually I know that not be true, but still, its very base reaction to a pissed off woman,.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yI have a RBF too. Up until last year, I would forcefully smile all day so people wouldn't think I was rude but then someone told me that I shouldn't have to do that. It's my natural face and I shouldn't be changing it to make sure others are comfortable

10 ReplyIt really doesn't bother me. The only way it would bother me is if I was in Dairy Queen and the people taking my order had a RBF and looked as though they wanted to burn the place down. But in every day life, I don't see a problem with it.
20 ReplyIt perceived as you not enthusiastic or moody to many people but it actuality is not is just your natural resting face cuz I get the same way of people telling me smile cuz I have a poker face most of the time.
10 ReplyWell, RBF normally makes people avoid you, so i just try to counter it by giving myself a curios gaze.
Oh, and if you're trying to find someone, do smile, but if your not trying to find anyone, then just keep up with the neutral expressionless face.00 Reply522 opinions shared on Fashion & Beauty topic. Where did the term "resting bitch face" come from? I would call it a straight face or relaxed face. And I've been told the same things by other people that you mentioned. I used to get pissed when they'd say "It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile"... AARRGGG

10 ReplyUgh I've been told to smile more since I have a RBF. It's so annoying. It's probably because it makes them insecure.

+1 yBecause smiling makes you appear less threatening. Ok, maybe that's a big word.
It just makes you look friendly.
Anyone would rather approach/talk to someone who is friendly rather than unfriendly.05 Reply- +1 y
That's the point though. These people are not being unfriendly. It's just how their face looks resting.
- +1 y
You can change that, or complain about it.
If you try to smile more, it will adjust. - +1 y
So, everyone with RBF (can't believe there's an acronym for this) relies their happiness (at least part of it) on what some random people say?
Do whatever you want, you can't control anyone.
There is really nothing wrong with it. Im a guy, and people tell me that I have it too. I find it funny that people prefer a fame smile, rather than a genuine face, albeit a "resting bitch face". Don't change yourself vecause other people tell you to, if they don't like it they can go f* themselves...
10 ReplyThere is nothing wrong with it. It's simply as you said, a neutral mode for your face. The people offended just need to get over it.
10 ReplyI didn't know resting bitch face was seriously a thing, they sounded like they were joking. What's the difference between a neutral and a bitch face?

+1 yThere's nothing won't with an RBF if that's who you are. However, a smile shows how peaceful you are inside. If you're not willing to smile maybe something is troubling you without you being aware of what it is. You don't have to put on a smile forcefully but when you do clear your mind of negative thoughts you will have a natural smiling face.

So would you would smile just to please others? That's fake as fuck or more like a push over
- +1 y
@That1tallguy If multiple, unbiased sources told me I looked like I had a stick up my ass, I might consider softening my demeanor yeah. Occam's Razor suggests I'm the problem.
- +1 y
Smiling to please others is definitely fake. And usually when I’m in a neutral state, I’m by myself. But people go out of their way to point out something that doesn’t matter. If I’m by myself, why are THAT bothered? The person should either avoid me or actually get to know me. My blank/almost frowning facial expression is how my face relaxes. I don’t get why it bothers people so much to the point where they have to say something. If I’m by myself how am I ruining your day?
- +1 y
If you're by yourself how are other people noticing it? And maybe they're just trying to help you out by letting you know you look like you don't want to be bothered. I've had plenty of people tell me similar things; how they used to think I was a psycho or something because of how angry I looked. Yeah, it sucked to hear but I'm glad they told me so I could work on it and form connections with people who might have otherwise written me off. But its up to you what you do with it. Maybe you don't care what others think.
