Girls and guys: what to wear during a massage (type of underwear, naked, ...)?

As the title reads, I'd like to know both from girls and guys what you would go with if you were getting a massage. Do you fully undress and go naked, or if you keep on your underwear: what type would you wear?

To give you some context, I recently went to get a massage and chose to wear a thong since I thought this would be the most practical underwear to go with for this purpose. My thinking was that it will save your underwear from getting in touch with massage oil and makes it easier for the massage therapist to get to certain areas while still covering everything. I was not wrong. -- But still, you may have different thoughts on this or different experiences. So please share your thoughts!

I'm wearing thongs on a regular basis. What's the big deal? Why should I wear anything different from my normal underwear when I go to massages? Just wear what you like to wear, no?

I've always just worn a thong because thats what im wearing normally anyways, haven't actually thought about it before..

Naked.
I majored in massage therapy.
Its just easy access to your glutes and lower back.
Flow is better too for me.

Ok that makes sense! I'm wondering though if everyone can be that open and relaxed being naked. And just for the record, I'm not saying this would be me. Even though I'm not doing this very often, I'm comfortably being naked around other people in Sauna/SPA as well. But in general, I'm just wondering if thongs would be good for massages we well?

How often do you see this on women and men? Or have you ever massaged a man who wore a thong to massage therapy?

Every therapist is different.
I mean, with thongs we do have cheek assess.
But even the straps from the thing can get in the way of a stroke. Depends on what therapist, but I will not put my hand underneath the cloth. If I'm doing a stroke that connects to the glute and lower back I stop then go over the cloth and continue.
That's just me though.
Females usually wear thongs or go naked if they want their glutes (from my experience)
Males usually wore boxers or briefs. Which is fine because we can work over the clothing or the sheet if they want.
Keep in mind I only majored in it, so my experience is limited to clinicals.
Im not practicing yet.

Ok thanks for the answer. That's actually interesting. The way my massage therapist handled it is that she slightly lowered the straps of the thong so she could get to these areas and when we were done in the sitting position she pulled it back up and then I had to lie on my stomach. It wasn't a full body massage, though. Just a 50 min back massage therapy.

Are you planning to become a massage therapist now and to practice it? Or are you saying you majored in it and now you're doing something else?

Yeah, we're kind of prudish. We don't like moving client's underwear so that it won't create misunderstandings. I like draping so that the client's whole half of the body is exposed when they aren't wearing underwear. I can do long strokes that way.

I studied it in New York. New York is one of the few states with it's own licensing exam. We're required 1,000 hours while other states require 500. I'm no longer in NY. I joined the military as soon as I graduated. So I have to apply for a different licensing exam, save about $700, review the material, and see what the regulations for the state I'm in now are.

To the first: not sure if I can follow this train of thought, because if someone were prudish wouldn't it make more sense to actually wear more and not less, so that more skin is covered? I'm not sure because I can only speak for myself, but that may be the reason why some think of thongs as a reasonable balance... but that's just me guessing...

As for the second (and being from the EU): it seems to me more and more that a lot of things are a lot more complicated in the US than in the EU. For instance when it comes to licenses or something a lot of these things are harmonized among EU members, making it seem that in this regard (and only in this - mostly technical/administrative - regard) the EU is more of a coherent entity than the not so Unites States. In every other regard, like when it comes to actual political decisions, of course there's no doubt that it's the complete other way round.

I picked thong.. but if ur worried about the oil and accessibility then go nude. But underwear something not loose and small like briefs or trunks would be the next best to keep things at a minimum but a baggage shouldn’t ever have you that much exposed.. I mean they willl reach on your body but you will be covered.

As a guy I don't like to go nude because what if "it moves", I know you know what "IT" is. I like for my boys to be somewhat held in position. Also, I usually wear a thong, I sorta get embarrassed? I guess you could say, because I dont want the massage therapist to see it and judge me. But at the same time its the best.

Every massage I've been to, they've preferred for me to be completely naked. I was always offered a kind of weird paper thong though, so I guess they must be somewhat used to people not being comfortable with being fully naked during a massage.
