Of course they are dump. But hey! 2019 is around the corner and people are doing anything possible to look cool or be popular and get some attention, getting some seriously cool tattoos with no meaning is one of them. None Asian people getting Asian symbol tattoos thinking they are dragons and shaolin monks for no reason, some are getting religion tattoos although the don't give a shit about the religion and so on. If you want to get a cool tattoo so do your research and find something that you can have on your skin permanently because removing it will cost you a lot more than you think and find some made up story (if there is no real reason behind it) and tell people about it to make everything look and feel more climactic cool. A lot of people are doing it and no one gives a shit anymore.

I would say that it's more dumb to get a tattoo that does have meaning, particularly when meaning is often connected with a state of emotion and emotional decisions are very often bad ones. Something that once had meaning can end up having an entirely different meaning in the future, then comes the regret. Imagine tattooing the name of that dead girlfriend on your arm, then you find out later that she slept with all of your friends and frittered away all of your savings. In that scenario I'd rather have the sunglasses.

Not dumb per se, but if a tattoo does not have a meaning, it does not make sense - inevitably.

It does not mean that it's good or bad. It's just that if someone admired a tattoo and asked the person, he/she will say "It means nothing" and the other person might stop admiring it. That's how I think...

When I see an interesting tattoo, I ask the person if it has a meaning. In my career I draw blood, so I've come across different tattoos on people's arms, and I asked them if they wouldn't mind me asking about the meanings.

Tattoos are dumb period, especially if they obscure the view or a beautiful art work - the human body. While some tattoos can be artfully done as in the 2nd pic, some just look like random graffiti on a wall or a badly illustrated comic book cover. The first girl wishes she had the clear, beautiful skin others cover up with ink. I got some dumb tattoo when I was young and have regretted it ever since.

A special meaning I can understand, but getting a tattoo that is a giant billboard is too much

My sister has an amazing parrot tattoo on her right back from her rib cage down to the tip of her right hip. It is gorgeous but she can cover it up

If she wears a bikini you can see it, but showing it off is part of the deal

Having a tattoo on your face or hands that is poorly done or in bad taste is not good in my book

I personally haven't met anyone that got a tattoo that didn't have a personal meaning to them. But I just feel like that's what tattoos are generally. Even the people I know who are covered in them; every piece they have on them has a backstory behind it with deep meaning. And a lot of thought goes into each one. At the end of the day, I don't think anyone should be judged for a tattoo. I think its their choice as far as what they want to do with their body. It makes them look different, but it doesn't change who they are. But every tattoo is simply a representation of who they are.

I hate everyone saying, people can do what they want with their body. Duh. No shit sherlock. Thats why they have a bunch of random meaningless tattoos. Thats not an answer to the questions, that is a weak persons emotional response who probably regrets their own meaningless tattoo. It stands to reason if you can do what you want with your body, I may judge you however I want with my brain as its part of my body and I can do what I want with it. :P

To answer the question, I think its dumb as shit and randomly tattooing yourself is a sign of mental instability. The craziest people I know all have tattoos, I don't know anyone who has their life together with a bunch of tattoos especially random ones. Only exceptions are things like Marines tats, RIP their kid, stuff like that ok I can see that but having a bunch of random doodles means you are crazy ASF.

Tattoos are a form of self expression. It could mean something but sometimes it’s just a thing that person likes. For example my tattoo is swirling stars. Stars have been my favourite shape ever since I was kid and I also love patterns so I put both together in a tattoo and I still love it even though it really doesn’t mean anything

I mean... a tattoo is a PERMANENT thing, so before getting it you should make sure it's something you REALLY want rather than just a "heat of the moment" sort of thing.

Wait about... perhaps 6 months, and see if you're still interested in that same tattoo. Still are? Well might as well get it. Lost interest? Well it was just a heat in the moment thing after all, and good thing you didn't get it.

A girl I was friends with, as soon as she found out she was pregnant, got a tattoo that said “baby” in Chinese. I thought it was lame but I didn’t say anything.
