Well, I go way back with the Goth scene, which wasn't even called Goth originally. We just called it death rock. I was a punk, and we hung with the death rockers, and I have had many gothy friends over the years.
Mostly the assumptions I make are about what kind of music they are into.
Many goth folks are pretty open about discussing depression, self harm, and a dark side, but the truth is, these aren't things that only goths suffer from, so it's not like a natural assumption I make.
I'm still kinda punky but not totally.

I said “sometimes” because they tend to have a particular music taste that they listen too. And they certainly listen to that music for a reason. The music is sad or aggressive and they dress accordingly too. It’s kinda the same with “emo”.
I don’t think that all goths are mentally unstable but I know that many also can be. (My boyfriend is what we call “a retired emo kid” and he had a lot of struggles growing up so that’s why I voted sometimes)
Not mental issues, but life issues. I try not to assume anything about people, but it really sticks out. (No offense at all.)
I’m not into the typical goth look, but some girls like the second pic look to have strong potential for a dark sexiness. There’s always the piercings I never like, though. I only like earrings. Black diamond earrings would be both dark and dead gorgeous. Also just simple black hair, and minimal makeup. Those few differences could make something not usually my style very hot! What do you think?
First I want to tell you that it would be hard to find one or two " way more pretty " goth girls than you are. But I chose my answer as no because how a person chooses to dress or carry themselves has no bearing on their mental wellness or illness. I would need to meet a person before I could judge that.

Not really but there are definitely more people with mental illnesses in the emo/goth scene than other groups of people. Most people I know though that are goth usually just have basic problems as everyone else and are chill. It's just emo type that you're going to find the dramatic and people that either are mentally ill or just fake it.
I assume they have emotional damage and a dark history. But that is not an indicator of an illness. Though some emotional disability may have been developed.
As someone who grew up as a "punk rocker" I am in a very similar grouping as goths and hung out with them in my younger years. I have several disabilities though.Possibly yeah. Most mental health workers I’ve ever come across seemed to be hogs or rockers. Basically people who don’t like to confirm. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but I suspect they go down that path because they’re looking to understand troubles and better manage their own lives as well as hopefully help others.
I tend to like a more old-fashioned Gothic style but regardless, it is not an indicator of mental illness.
I hate when people try to fit fringe people into a box. No. Goth people are hot. sometimes they have issues. They live harder, love harder, and their feelings run deep just as their thoughts do. They have style and great character and awesome taste.
I am from India, I have never met a goth person in real life. There isn't any goth culture here. I don't have much knowledge about Goths. They do dress all black and have tattoos, that's all I know, but I don't know why. They look intimidating lol. But I won't jump up to conclusions.
When I meet someone who is a part of subculture I assume they are person who does not derive sense of identity or normalcy from being part of the normative model of culture.
I don't assume they have a mental illness, but I do wonder what traits they have that make them feel like they do not belong to such an extent.I don't assume anything unless emo. They have mental illness. With goth its something different. Its a subculture. I don't mind them, but wouldn't want to be around them. Well, depends. As a group. No, as a person and maybe one friend there with them and want to chill, sure. Though, reason I said as group and doing shit. I'll stand out more than the goth would. Seeing some average guy in the mix, wouldn't look right.
Im not gonna lie, yes I do think they aren't fully there mentally. I've been prove wrong and found a few people who are goth and as simply going through some stuff but are really nice cool people. But personally I dont believe its normal to have pentagrams n satanic stuff and just simply being that dark (mentally) all the time.
Ironic coming from a mentally ill goth, but no.
It's just another music subculture, and while there might be certain attitudes associated with it, it's just another trait at the end of the day.
Some metalheads are tough, others not so much; some goths might have mental illnesses, others do not. But they would have or not have those illnesses whether or not they listen to gothic rock.I don’t know why, but I usually do! I think this is just a stereotype, maybe because they dress “dark” or “edgy” that makes them appear to be hard or cold. Most people I see dressed like this do not usually smile or make eye contact with me, which I assume is because they are depressed or hurting. Or they just don’t care about anything, which I would also relate to a symptom of depression. But again, probably just a stereotype I have in my head.
I wouldn't assume a normal goth would have a mental illness but if said person had demon horn implants fully black eyes sharp teeth a snake tongue way to many piercings and many face tattoos then I would definitely believe they got a problem.
Goth people are usually chill and fun to be around they don't have mental illnesses they just found what version of themselves makes them happiest and they are willing to express it witch is quite admireable
Pretty much. They are anti-social and have committed themselves to living in a silly vampire movie 24/7.
When I see a goth I see an artist, a free thinker, as someone of higher than average intelligence desparate to find a group of people that understand ad accept them for who they are
NO!
Okay, maybe a little bit.
I mean there has to be at least something a liiiittle bit wrong with you to cover yourself in black from head to toe and put on extreme body modifications.
I like light goth, actually, but not extreme.Well it depends. If they are teens then yes I will. I used to be one myself when I was a teenager. Maybe not goth but more emo-ish. Usually goths don’t come from the happiest childhoods.
I live in America, therefore i assume literally everyone i meet has a mental illness of some descript.
No. What I realize about them is the fact that they want to be noticed. When a person pays money to have pieces of metal stuck through their lips they obviously want that to be the first thing people notice about them.
I’m a heavy metal goth and one of the most stable people I know 🤘
