Is skinny and petite pretty much the same thing?

Would you consider them both as skinny and Petite?

Petite has to do with being small overall, and not necessarily 'skinny'. Think of Victoria's Secret models. Beautifully slender/slim women, but you wouldn't really consider them 'petite' because they are still tall and have wide shoulders.

This is why you see that usually women who are small in both height and frame are considered petite. You can be petite and still have a fair amount of curves, you don't necessarily have to be slender all over.

I'm a bit short, but I'm still not petite because I don't look that 'small' when people see me as a whole. Someone taller than me could still look small and therefore be described as petite.

In my opinion, petite has more to do with height. So they're not the same thing. I consider a petite person to be short and skinny. While a person who's tall and skinny is not petite. Both of those types of people are skinny, but only one of them is petite.

A lot of the time, they can go hand in hand, but they are not the same. Skinny is thin and petite is just generally small.

Think of it as the difference between a pencil and a small stick. Pencils can be long or short, but they're always thin, whereas Small Sticks are small, but they can be quite thick at times

I believe your confusion stems fom the way clothing manufacturers use "petite" as a size - which is really stupid. Petite always means Small (meaning Short in stature) & frequently Dainty. Skinny is more like being Bony (not having much weight [muscle or fat] on your bones). Looking at your 2 images, the top woman appears Petite (small) & the bottom appears Skinny (bony).

No. A skinny person isn’t necessarily petite. A petite person is very short (height) with a small body frame (width).

A petite’s smaller body frame differentiates them from a skinny person. The distance between their left and right shoulder is smaller as is their chest, waistline, and thighs.

No, I wouldn't consider them the same. You can be skinny and be tall, which would not be considered petite. You can be short with curves and be considered petite. You can be short and skinny and be considered petite. Basically if you have a small frame, that would make you petite.

They're not exactly the same thing. Skinny can be tall or short. Petite is generally skinny, but is also usually short. However petite can be more curvy than skinny. You could call a girl petite who has great curves if she has a slender waist and is short. So there's some overlap between the two, but they're not identical

No. Petite is short and small boned. you can still be chubby.  you can be 7 feet tall and have huge bones bones and be skinny.  an elephant is never petite but it can be very skinny if it is starving

No. By definition petite is a woman who is small in stature and thin in build, where as skinny is a synonym for a thin build.
In other words, if you're petite you're skinny, but you don't have to be petite to be skinny.

Nope. Never really been. Petite = small bone structure. can be fat, not skinny. Skinny = Low body fat with low muscle mass. not necessarily that you see a sixpack. some also call it bony.

I wouldn't say there the same. im skinny and 5ft 9 in, but a petite skirt or shorts would fit me, but I'm skinny. i think petite means your smaller height wise and have smaller measurments.

Yes, usually. Though there are some tall girls who manage to stay thin but they're not petite because they're tall. So it doesn't always mean the same thing, but usually I would say yes.

They are not the same. Runway models are skinny but not petite. Short women with a slightly hourglass body probably qualify as petite but may not get called skinny.
