Skinny doesn't always mean skinny tight e. g. if you're a super skinny guy, then regular skinny won't be skin tight on you.

Personally, I like clothes that fit to my body and I'd rather lean on the side of fitted, as opposed to baggy, don't like the look of baggy so much, plus I find that after wearing them for a few hours they stretch out a bit and don't fit as tight, at least with some that I've worn before.

Plus, I work out, so I'm toned in the leg area and if it makes my butt look good cos they're fitted there, cool - I'm slim and toned and it would be nice if people could tell I work out, based on what little they could see, because when I'm out, I tend to wear a jacket and my arms are covered and I think when we think of muscles, we think of arm muscles.

Men aren't supposed to look small. A bit of width on them looks better.

Pant leg styles are changed by the industry, to try and inspire people to buy, spend. Not all changes are good. Some are just change for the sake of change.
Being fashionable signals a person knows 'what's up', what's going on in the world. Makes them seem younger, too.
Another influence is celebrity culture. It's always existed, but it's never been this voracious. Even Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds bust out of their tailored suits and then they look too small, almost ridiculous. (Gosling has 'calf pants', he wryly admitted. They fit his calves. Until they don't.)
But there is also a sheep mentality to you. It's not about individualism, these trends. People say 'it's the new normal'... but why? It's wise to question that. Sometimes there are other factors, more insidious, at play.

I like men to look like men, and women to look like women. Skirts and dresses are much less practical, so pants on women came about for pragmatic reasons, and certainly feel the most appropriate most of the time. But for dating, and to be appealing, every girl should have something feminine in their closet.
But skinny pants on guys is actually LESS practical. You can't even fit your phones in there. Let alone hide an inopportune chub. And that pasta alfredo from last night finally kicked in.
I think men should rebel. But it's a difficult battle to fight. All you can really do is not buy. And then the manufacturers/marketers will just blame it on economic downturn.

I never understood that they're extremely uncomfortable. I basically get claustrophobia when clothes are too tight I can be in small spaces all I want but if I can't move in my clothes then I feel trapped af.

I don't like clothes that inhibit me, I just start imagining what if I'm actually in a situation where I need to move like if there's any kind of danger or maybe I'm just late for the train or something and then I can't move quickly because of my pants it just feels like why would I pay for something that actually makes my life worse?

I can say though my clothes have gotten a bit less baggy and more fitting over time so my newer jeans are also a bit skinnier than the old ones but still nowhere near this level ^^
