I'm perfectly comfortable wearing a speedo in the right environment. I think more men should be as well. Any discomfort in wearing a speedo in public comes more from the lack of other guys wearing them than from how revealing they are. Where I live, pretty much everyone wears speedos, it's pretty mainstream over here in Europe.
Heck, when I was growing up, my mother would even go as far as to ridicule guys in shorts, saying they are for children, lol.

They're actually far more comfortable in my opinion. They don't have mesh liners, they don't cling and ride up, and they dry out a lot quicker than trunks so you're not sitting in wet for a long time after you get out of the water.
