I'm getting a tattoo soon. Will this change how people see me?

I've made changes to my appearance before and they have affected people's first impression of me, but I've never made any permanent alterations. I do know several people who have tattoos and I've never thought anything of it, but I know I'm not always a good gauge for this kind of thing.

Will getting a tattoo change how people see me (before getting to know), or is it not something most people would care about?

Is it in a visible area?

I have 22 tattoos across my entire body in visible and non-visible areas. I'm a church-going guy waiting for the right girl and I like music and instruments. I also ride a bike (motorcycle) and wear a leather jacket. People see me and instantly assume I've done prison time or I'm some sort of sex worker or easy lay and it honestly makes me feel kinda like shit when I'm at a bar and some girl comes up to me and treats me like a ham.
So, yes, I don't know if just one would do it but, potentially they could see you as an easy lay.

Tattoos typically indicate impulsivity and a bit of a wild streak in someone and hidden wild nature.
While I do have that side to me, mine are all entirely personal to me and I simply love art and see my body as a canvas that tells the story of my life. Someone could literally take a look at my life and trace the story of my life back to the age of 14 on my body just by looking at everything on me.

So, yes, be prepared for it but don't expect it.

I think most people will see you based upon the content and visibility of the tattoo.

I remember when I first got mine it became difficult to have a serious conversation when talking with other girls.

I would simply want to say hi, or ask about something they said or were doing, same sort of things I did pre-tattoo.

But afterwards the subject always instantly turned to the Playboy bunnies on my arms, the usual 20 questions which I get tired of answering. Occasionally we'd get past that but then hit a solid road block where I would be told, sometimes nicely, sometimes brutally, that my tattoos were a non-starter... they couldn't take me seriously as a boyfriend.

So yes, it will change how people see you.

I just re-read the other answers, and a word tattoo probably would be ok. Just remember if it's visible in the mirror, it will be forever backwards to you. That is the main reason I didn't get PLAYBOY tattooed under my bunnies... I would get tired of looking at that fast !

If it’s on your neck or face, then yes, you’ll get a lot of judgement.
If it’s anywhere else, or at least in common places like arms, legs etc. then people might just be curious about the meaning behind it. 🙃

Tattoos are a big turn-off for me. I don't like them at all. My opinion of people I knew before they got a tattoo changed after they got one, fwiw.

Art is in the eyes of the beholder, and I don't see it as art. I see tattoos as advertising someone else's art and the person is the billboard but isn't getting paid to advertise it. People are, of course, free to get tattoos or otherwise "express" what they want. I'm also free to dislike them. I've never liked tattoos or body piercings other than for earrings on anyone.

Oh I'd never get a piercing not even to get my ears reopened. I do NOT understand the appeal of sticking metal in your skin. They look great on some people but egh I just don't like the piercing part.

But people pay for others art and display it in their home and stuff all the time! What are you supposed to do with art besides sell it, and once bought what besides show it? You're free to dislike it, but I don't see how that aspect of a tattoo is so strange.

They're permanent reminders of temporary insanity as far as I'm concerned. I just don't like them at all. But as you can tell from the responses, it will no doubt change how some people see you. For all we know, it might be more positively. There are people who really admire tattoos, I'm just not one of them.

It will if you don't have a good I need a very good tattoo artist you can vision The Way You Walk The Way You Move because everything has to flow with the tattoo if it's just sit there like a big block then it's no good it's no fun and you're just a regular person who got a tattoo from the 5th Grader

Well yeah I'm not gonna cheap out on something permanently in my body. It's fairly small though so I'm not sure how much of a difference it flowing would really make.

Im not sure what exactly but I think it's gonna be a word or two, on my forearm. My sister and I are getting it together so it'll be something to do with sisterness.

And in my username RP is kinda just 2 letters to look like initials because "Blackburn" was taken lol. They're also the abbreviation for role play though which is why I picked those two specifically.

They spoil an unblemished skin. I go to an art gallery to see art. They are not what I want to see on any person, male or female. Just my preference.

My skin is not unblemished. Maybe I could get the tattoo over a scar and then it would be an art blemish covering some random pointless one. I understand where you're coming from though, I agree there's a lot of natural beauty, and it is a shame to cover it up with cool man-made stuff when there's plenty of room for both in their own place.

Scars don't matter. A person that loves life to the full is lucky not to pick up at least one. They are part of that person. They tell a sort of story. Tatts are just not necessary.

Yeah some do, others just mean I'm clumsy or the cat got spooked. Those I don't think are too important to cover up with something that instead represents a chosen and important part of my life.

I've never attracted anyone before so I don't think this will make any noticeable difference in that regard, but it will be too bad if it means some potentially nice people would avoid me.

Lol! Yes, he likes sleeping on my bed. He was abandonded by his previous owners, who moved away. We couldn't see him without a home, so we took him in. Bit of a nightmare as our apartment is on the top floor. Luckily, all the other residents love him, too, so they bring him up and ring our doorbell.

It's hard to say yes I have bees in abusive relationship or someone did this or that to me. But that what tattoo stand for for us men who know the reality. thats not true my sister is, she doesn't wear black nail polish but is a virgin with a visible good size arm memorial tattoo. after the military i went back to tattooing and did her work after we lost our parents we both have memorial tattoos, never assume. tattoos have nothing to do with faith, purity etc and so on though there are some very horrible tattoos out there some art artwork
