Why do people buy luxury brands? Do you own any?

I think it's mostly a status thing, though sometimes it can be about quality. You do get what you pay for, but I also think a lot of what you pay for in the really high end luxury brands is the name, too. Some people do like being seen in a certain name brand of stuff.
I've personally never owned any designer clothes or handbags, though I've heard women say the purses are well made enough to far outlast the cheaper department store ones.
I used to ride horses in the hunter/jumper discipline, and Hermés is/was a very high end name in that world, too. They were all the rage decades ago, but not affordable for most (and those same 40-year-old saddles in good shape, despite being considered "outdated" for today's standards, will still sell for at least twice as much as the other quality brands that were popular at the same time!). I've seen them and they're good quality saddles, but I definitely think part of the price is the name (same with their bridles and other equine goods). There are also Gucci saddles out there, but they're rare and ridiculously priced (I've only seen a couple on eBay, which were mint from the '70s and '80s, and being sold for several thousand dollars; I've never seen one in person or known of anyone who owns them, so I think they're more of a novelty item that may have been a limited production type of thing). I actually recall hearing that Gucci was made in the same factory as a couple of other high quality brands that retailed for a fraction of the price of the Guccis!
As far as the horse stuff goes, I've bought name brand tack that was known for quality, but not designer-type luxury brands (no Hermés or Gucci). Much of it was from brands that were popular decades before I bought it used, and were now considered "old school". My reasoning for buying it was that 1) older used quality goods are much better quality and longer lasting than cheaper new goods, plus you can get the older used stuff for cheap, 2) the stuff happened to be of the level of quality I was looking for and fit well, and 3) cheap tack is not safe and doesn't last, so isn't worth it to me. I wasn't concerned with name brand when I bought it, though I always liked looking for brands I was familiar with and knew what to expect rather than taking a chance on something no name if I was buying online without being able to see it in person first. If I was in a physical store and could see it, I would just buy what I thought was good and suited my needs.
I also have a purse from one of the companies that specialized in English tack (though it is from Miller's/Crosby, which though high quality for sure, is not anywhere near in the same luxury status as Hermés or Gucci), because it was a great price and it fit my qualifications for a purse: not too big but not too small, has a shoulder strap, and has a zipper. It was like $20-ish while I usually pay at least $30 at Target every time my old one wears out (usually after a few years of heavy use), so when I found it while out shopping for tack, I picked it up!
Im not into purses or dresses so i dont really need anything that expensive. Im into streetwear so Nike, Adidas, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Underarmour, Abercrombie, Converse, Urban Outfitters, North Face, Vans, and Calvin Klein are my preference and not crazy expensive like the logos in the picture.
Most who buy that stuff in the pic are just following trends and tryna fit in
Street wear is the best
Yesss
Usually to impress other people, that is why they go out of their way to point out what brand something is to people.
IDC, I get something if I like it, find it useful, and it is of good quality. A high price does not necessarily mean good quality. Some lower cost things are better, and some higher cost things are better, it depends on the specific product. It also depends on the market position of the company. Sometimes a company has a good reputation for a long time and they start lowering their quality but continue charging the same price, effectively living off their name. It takes time for people to finally realize that a once good quality brand has gotten worse so in the mean time they make more profit. An example of this would be Sony electronics. At one time they were good quality, but then in the early 2000s their products were poor quality and didn't last, but it took years for many people to catch on. Their products seemed good when purchased new, but quickly lost their quality, especially when it came to audio and video products.
It also works the other way around too. Sometimes a company is trying to build their brand reputation so you may get a good quality product for a lower price because they are trying to increase market share and get more customers. An example of this would be Toyota of the past and currently Nissan. You could get more quality for the money when compared to other brands.
Mainly to show off their money, and feel like / prove that they fit in with the others in their social group. It's also the "safe" option for people who have no sense of style of their own.
And no, I don't own any, unless you count high end technical clothing, like Arc'teryx, Patagonia, etc. Buying a Gucci jacket would be like getting a curry at the pub - it might be okay, but really if you want a curry, you go to the Indian down the road and get the real thing.

As a person who knows about marketing... it all depends on the quality of the product and how many of them are in this world. There aren't tons of Gucci dresses that you can buy them anywhere. The production is costly too due to which the company needs high profit so they can earn as well as do the production and improve it. It all results in increase of the cost. There are various other reasons too. These are the top most ones.
Good for you lol your parents must be rich
Why curse? you are lucky I mean
Yeah it is a curse. Like always being the good kid, always following manners, having gold digger friends, having eyes of people on you, expected to do continue the business of your parents or do something where you earn more rather than what you love to do, and whole lot of things.
Lol that's the life every Indian kid
Oh sorry about that... i can somewhat understand
A lot of people love the designers.
Got my best friend a gucci wallet for his 30th birthday. It's supposed to be high quality, so that's why we went with it.
I only have 1 prada bag and that's because it was love at first site.
My dad on the other hand, just likes "high quality" stuff. So he thinks if you're paying more, it must be better.
Some people like to show off and boost their ego.
Some people actually like the luxury brands, because yes they cost more money, but most of the time it's better quality as well.
Some people have too much money and this is a way to spend it.
I have 5 things in that picture example. Nothing has to be that expensive but if you want it why shouldn’t you be able to get it?
Only if I am getting for reasonable price
Many reasons. From investment to quality.
Also a "luxury brand" is not simply a fashion statement and the expense is a large part of the appeal.
Would Ferraris be appealing if just anyone could buy them?
Because they can. Because they want to. They like quality materials and workmanship and the fact it holds it’s value when you choose to sell it.
I have a few luxury items (jewellery).
My wife does, but at resale stores for about 10% of the original price, sometimes less, sometimes more. Manolo Blahnik sandals $40. For Christmas I got her a pair of YSL over-the-knee suede boots, $2000 new, for $300, apparently worn once.
It's an artificial need. Society tells us, that owning them would make us feel "higher-level". It's easy to manipulate people.
Because they are superficial or being sold; and all people are superficial.
Offended girl: I'm not superficial..
Me: Then why are you wearing makeup everyday?
*walks away with a pimp skip*
Nah, don't care. Even if I did have the money to afford luxury brand items, I wouldn't care. Thrift store shopping is good for me.
Because they're attention seekers and mistakenly think it impresses people
Quality mostly, at least personally speaking
Of those pictured, I've worn Rolex's, drunk Hennessy and Moet, sold Tiffany pieces and owned Gucci and Hermés pieces well just a tie from the latter
Only thing I can think of that could be considered "luxury" brands is some of my booze. Hennessy Black, Maker's Mark whiskey, Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, regionally made Wiggly Bridge bourbon, and E&J XO brandy.
They are insecure and want people to think they are cool. I think anyone who spends 5 grand for a Rolex is pretty pathetic.
Spends 200 dollars and he is pathetic.
Its a status thing for lots of people, and I guess it makes them feel better than others who can't afford them.
To show off. I buy quality clothing and shoes for obvious reasons but I'm not giving a lot of money to by nonsense or just for the sake of showing off.
More money than they know what to do with!! Or, more money than brains.
They fit better, look better, feel better, and last longer.
I own plenty it’s what I enjoy and what I grew up seeing.
Oh really... are you rich lol?
Rich? No …. But i make a salary that most cannot obtain by my age and it’s still beginning salary within my career. My parents make great money as well.
I will only buy expensive jeans & boots. Than it's just plain tees or plain long sleeves. can't do logos at all. never will
Cuz expensive things tend to Last because they are original
No brands. But there’s a difference in luxury items. Brands are usually shitty because of their brand name.
A fool and his money soon part ways. I do my best to purchase quality at lower prices.
i just look down on people for wasting time and moeny on such things
Rolex and other luxury brand watches, also Fendi, vera wang jewelry that I sell
quality for one reason , but even they are relying on name too much and selling lessor quality
To make other people depress by showing they can afford branded stuff but end up being depress themself in financial crises later on.
Because they want to show off.
I have one lol. I just like it. Quality is better.
Which one
Mostly girls are able to tell difference in quality in clothes
Cause they love them.. 😂😂
Do you have it too lol?
Those are crazy expensive up there.
she is rich , spends like a drunken sailor
Most of it is overpriced garbage in my opinion.
I’ve had Versace clothing Rolex watch
I don't buy labels, I by products.
To brag. I think that's about it.
Tons, it's empowering and feels nice
perceived value
I have champion
