Why are middle-class people so obsessed with designer clothes?

My uncle and his wife both work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, but they love to post their new Louis Vuitton shirts or Chanel bag on Facebook. All they ever wear is brand-name clothes. Meanwhile, my cousin, whose dad is one of the higherups of a tech company, is always traveling the world with his friends and rarely has to work. But the guy wears plain t-shirts with no brand and blue jeans; you would never know that he's rich.

A number of years ago, the company I work for did a car giveaway. A single car or several cars equaling about $50k. Some people got Corvette’s, BMW’s Mercedes, new trucks, etc. The billionaire president of the company got 3 Honda Civic base models. One for himself and two for his kids. He’s still driving his over a decade later. Some people feel the need to flaunt whatever wealth they have, but a lot of rich people just look and act like regular people.

Because the rich try to look poor while the poor try to look rich.

All the middle class people I know however wear normal clothes lol.

For the most part I wear wrangers and hanes t-shirts I bought at the dollar store. Only high end stuff I have are hand me downs from my grandfather, father and a few jackets I bought.

They are well-made and look good. My wife has a lot of designer clothing but she buys it all nearly new at resale shops. For our anniversary/Christmas I bought her two pairs of boots, one Gucci and one YSL. About $300 each. New about $1800.

Because some people believe its a status thing, look how well I'm doing, I have flashy clothes. The real wealthy have more important things to worry bout, running their businesses, they don't concern themselves with having to show off
