I feel like truly wealthy people don’t focus and obsess over “fashion” as much. They can go to a store that caters to them and someone can style their wardrobe. They don’t really have to sit and think about what to wear. Also, they just wear super expensive classics and basics. They aren’t typically trying to wear the new edgy designs or pieces celebs like KimK or Rihanna are wearing.

If someone is a “fashionista” they very likely are not really wealthy. In my opinion.

Real rich people buy used cars and don't give a shit about clothes. Do you see Bill Gates playing dress-up? I dress like I'm going for a hike and I could give a shit about a BMW or better... shit just costs more to repair. ... and that brings me to the point though.

Some of them do it for the looks... or they're rich in part, because of how they look. Record labels will handout money and demand they give a certain "appearance" and the brands get to use them like a billboard to advertise their brand. Like, let's look at my multi-thousand dollar Gucci watch... wish I had it out right now so I could post a picture. It was the most bullshit thing I ever bought. The battery dies... no lights... all old school and shit and not even digital at all... a stainless steel piece of shit in my opinion. Now let's just compare that thing to a G-shock or a random Fossil... like $60 compared to something that just makes people ask me if it's real. ... I shit you not nobody gives a shit at all, or they just ask if it is even real. ... that fucking watch is nothing more than a reminder to me how that flashy shit just doesn't matter... at least not for me. I'd rather get one of those camping bug-out vans and trick it out with solar panels on the roof... hide guns in it and shit.

That shit don't even matter... most of the time expensive purchases are really done for tax purposes or to rent it out and make your money back and then some (rich for a reason). But yeah you could get asked and be able to say, "Yeah I own that." Big deal if you don't even play with it.

New money also just has less experience with dealing with money than old money. You either grew up doing taxes with Dad before you were in High School or you grew up with a single mother going on spending sprees when the tax return came in... is what it is. Me and that stupid watch for instance... I'd never buy that retarded shit now... but back then I thought it would matter. Rap videos had me thinking that was actually a thing. ... those showcase people IRL, don't even wear that shit while they're sipping drinks in the garage to get away from the wife. I'm serious... more like pajamas or barely dressed at all. Just is what it is.

I have mixed feelings on this. I’ve worked for and around wealthy people and rich people. They are each different.


I have worked for and around very wealthy people and kind of agree with you. Meaning, I’ve never been around a very wealthy person who had visible brand labels or bragged about their clothing. In fact, none of them drove exotic cars or spoke about money at all. It was all GMC Tahoes, Range Rovers, and Teslas. Very nice but attainable cars. When I say wealthy I mean people with money so layered it would be nearly inconceivable they could ever be broke. Investments, old money, book deals, they owned property and sports teams and huge boats. They have generational wealth.


Now, rich people - professional athletes, performers, and so on - get paid by their per performance, as long as they can do their craft, and are paid BY the wealthy person they sign contracts with and who owns their team or finances their tours. These ‘rich’ are the ones with exotic cars, labels, and perform like circus monkeys for the profit of their wealthy masters. Often they are flippant with their money and obsess about letting people know how successful they are.


There are exceptions, but not many. Tons of famous celebrities end up broke and destitute. The ones with staying power learn to invest and create wealth.

I've observed exactly the same thing. My wealthy customers drive ordinary cars and only dress up for special occasions. If you didn't see their houses, you wouldn't know they had money.

The people new to money are the ones with Ferrari's and huge closets and expensive watches and handbags. They often have relatively little invested would be bankrupt in a couple of years if their income stream ended.

Wealthy people spend their money buying income streams. Example: one of my customers owns 3 properties on the same street in Hawaii. Most of the time, they are rented out and bring in double the property payment. When they go to Hawaii about 3 times a year, they stay there for free, and if they have an event there, their friends rent the other properties so they are all close together. And they will be paid off in a few more years, but will continue to generate income.

Then you and I have the same experience. Oddly, the last wealthy guy I interacted with also has beachfront property in Hawaii. That must be their playground!

I also saw them wearing very normal clothing. Their pantry is stocked from
Costco just like mine. They watch the same TV shows we did. The thing I did notice was the men, even if wearing jeans and a t-shirt, usually had a nice timepiece watch. That was a universal. The women, there were fewer giveaways but the jewelry was usually one, particularly the wedding bands.

Yes, but I would call it "more casual and laid back". Unlike the East Coast, where white-collar men at all levels wear suits, men on the West Coast rarely do unless they are C-suite executives, and even then, not always. Part of that is the weather - the north east is much colder - but it's also just less of a priority. I'm excluding Hollywood, which is its own bubble.

I think it's mostly people in teenage years that follow trends, some older people do it sometimes but it's not so common, it' just teens of any class as long as they have money to buy what's trending, rich and poor alike, with the difference that the richer people have the same style just costs more than the poor/middle class which might look the same but cost a fraction of the cost the other one paid for.
