It’s the quality, how long it lasts, not the if it’s a designer item. A lot of designer items are made for pennies in 3rd world countries but sell for 100’s.
Usually you buy brands you know offer good quality and longevity for the price.
I live rural but in a very affluent part of the UK, a lot of landowners, farmers, and other money people, they tend not to get designer stuff but brands that offer quality.
all a person wearing solely designer stuff is saying is look at me.usually a waste of money, some brands have become high level through 100’s years of quality, some from some Celeb wearing it or doing an advert.

Because it doesn’t really mean anything , it only means something to the person that is buying it and other people that like that name brand as well I am not saying I don’t like any name brand things , I just don’t make a big deal out of it Me personally rather spend my money on other things that make me happy , over some name brand item. All that matters , is it makes you happy , if you want to spend 500 dollars on a shirt and it makes you happy , that’s all that matters , if you are buying something just trying to impress someone else? , Good Lick with that shit, cuz honestly most people don’t really care ,
Different interests. I don’t have interest in expensive clothes or jewelry, but I have 2 overpriced expensive pieces that I AM interested in that I love.
Some people may spend their money with fancy furniture or golf equipment vs wearing fancy things. Just because someone has money to buy it doesn’t mean they should or even want to. My parents have a 2013 Chevy. They can afford a nice new car but absolutely refuse to until their car shits itself 🤷♀️.
When it comes to fashion, it's just another piece of fabric in the end. What does the fancy brand name change about that? Other than me having less money in my bank account for a single rag while I could've bought 20 things secondhand? To me it always feels like people buying big brands just want others to be impressed by them and as a status symbol. It's like an imaginary value. My roommate spent 800$ on a wallet. Like... Why?

Because we don't need to try and impress. Wearing "brands" often comes across as low brow attention seeking by people who feel the need to prove they can afford stuff. People with money judge clothes by the quality of the cloth and the cut not the label.
It is not among their interests to own flashy things.
I understand it.
I have never felt the need to wear designer stuff because I was not raised with that mentality.
There is nothing wrong with people who like those, but it is just not among my own interests.- u
I don't care one bit for that
also... middle of the nowhere Texas is not exactly the place in which a more fancy style would fit that well... lmfao
if I lived at any "capital of fashion" metropoli or... had a much nicer weather, then it would be different yes
but down here in Hellish, Texas... I dress for comfort, and pretty much for survival, lol I buy things that are the best I can afford and the best for the job in hand. I buy a product, not a brand name. Why pay for something expensive when another can do the same or better for half the price.
I live in a big city and have enough money to buy trendy fashion things. And I don't. Because they are made from polyester and other forms of plastic and, hell, uncomfortable. And ugly AF... waste of money
Just because you can afford something does not mean you should Buy it. I think people that pay 500 bucks for a handbag made in China are stupid. I always thy to buy American Made products. They seem to last the longest. I have power tools that my father owned in the 60s that I am still using. There is no need to buy a new one.
Designer item/brands are not worth the price especially for ephemeral thins like clothes, with the exception of made-to-measure suits, where you are paying for the skill of tailor, or hand made shoes where you are paying for the skill of the cobbler.
only "fake wealthy" people feel the need to show off with "named goods". its the "trashy rich" person move.
That’s their personal choice of how they spend or what they spend their money on. It’s not about bragging of what they can afford. They just choose to live the quiet money lifestyle.
Spending money to look rich is one of the leading causes of never becoming rich.
People who dress flashy typically don't have a lot of money. People that don't dress flashy typically have money. Not talking about homeless people of course
Because you don't want to draw attention to yourself. If you have fancy things, people will steal your stuff. Better to look average and blend in.
I would rather buy sushi than a fancy outfit.
Because they can make more investing the savings... only people I know with name brands and wealthy have bought them because they were an investment in quality
They have different values and prioritize spending money on something else.
I don't care for things, I'd prefer experiences. Skydive, water jets, fly a plane, travel anywhere, restaurants, theater, etc.
Why wear a 100€ black gucci t shirt if you can wear a 10€ black t shirt?
The only difference is the gucci tag on it.
Waste of money

they aren't interested in it or they would rather invest their money elsewhere
They don't want to look like snobby dickheads
Another is that rich people can actually be quite cheapOther priorities. One might prefer to invest or donate the funds to a worthy cause instead.
