Do you wash new clothes before wearing them? If so why or why not?

Personally for me I always wash new clothes after I purchase them due to having sensitive skin. Plus I have worked in retail and in warehouses and the stuff the clothes are exposed to before we put them on the floor or ship off is enough to make a germaphobe go crazy.

I do. It helps to make them less stiff and remove the "new clothes" smell. It also shrinks them to their actual size.

It washes out extra dye that can be transferred to your skin or other garments. Most fabrics made from synthetic fibers (polyester, acrylic) are colored with azo-aniline dyes. These dyes can cause severe skin reactions for people, especially small children, who are allergic to them. If the allergy is severe, the rash will be similar to poison ivy. But even less severe reactions can cause dry, itchy inflamed patches of skin.

Fabrics and new clothes are usually treated with formaldehyde, which manufacturers put on clothes to enhance texture and reduce wrinkles. But pesticides or anti-fungus, mold and mildew chemicals may also be present. If not, there may be spores on the clothes.

Fabrics and clothes stored in warehouses may be exposed to bugs and vermin that can leave behind feces, urine, eggs or germs.

It is possible to transfer lice, scabies, bacteria, and fungus from one person to another person when clothes are tried on. Dressing rooms can become breeding grounds for everything from viruses to athlete's foot.

I worked in clothing stores during high school. The boxes those clothes ar shipped across the world in always have cockroaches. So much so we had a bug process when opening new boxes.

Tell me about it. Not going to name the places, but there were times whenever we would get new boxes they would have not only cockroaches, but different type of bugs plus there were a couple of incidents where we not had rats but rat feces unfortunately

I do. Not sure, I guess I was just told to at a young age and never really questioned it. But I suppose it'll potentially remove a lot of lint, if the company doesn't pre-wash them. It may shrink it down to its normal size. And if people have tried them on in-store somehow, you at least wash as much of their body oils (and other things) off as you can.

Most of the times yes, unless I am on holiday and no chance. I always end up buying clothes on holiday as I underpack most of the time.
New clothes smell weird. Need to wash them.

You have no idea what they've sprayed on the clothing in shipment to keep them from eaten by bugs. Do you know who tried the clothing out at the store? I also have found clothing that I could wear that was picked up off the floor.

I always wash me cloths before I wear them. You don't know who tried them on before you and how many hands have touched it. I'm kind of ocd so I clean everything before I wear it. Especially swimsuits

Actually it really depends if it was in a package or not or if I want to preshrink them a little or soften them up I will. Stuff like pants or shirts that may have been tried on I would consider washing too

Not always. I can be a pig sometimes, but if the clothes smell really strongly or worse, badly, then I do it everytime.
