You mean, shorts? It WAS about 35 years ago!! I wore shorts like that all the time!! Most guys did!! Then, Fart Simpleton came along with those huge baggy "shorts" that went down to his shoes and suddenly, EVERYBODY wanted look as stupid as him!! From then on, you couldn't FIND shorts that didn't go to your shoes, or even above your knees!!
And, in the `60's, our shorts were even shorter than they were in the `80's!

So do I!! Thanks to those oversized bags, I get looks if I even wear ordinary shorts that go down to mid thigh! I wore them to work in the print shop 15 years ago and, at first, a number of others working there were making jokes about how much leg I was showing!! 25 years before, I could show twice as much and no one but my mother or aunts would give a shit!!
