How do people dress warm and fashionable in cold country’s that have snow?

Okay this is probably a silly question but I’m from a warm country, even in winter and I’ve never seen the snow before.

So do people still manage to dress skimpy in the snow/cold? And how do people dress cute and fashionable without freezing? I get cold trying to dress cute here and it doesn’t get crazy cold in winter.

I moved from a very hot country to a very cold country, and coats, boots, gloves, toques, base layers are essentials. Scarves are also important but I'm personally not a fan of them.

When you layer your clothes you can incorporate different colors and patterns to make them look good. I layer a bunch of things like sweaters, shirts, and vests over a turtlenecks and if I need more warmth then a base layer underneath the turtleneck, and a coat or jacket on top, it's hard to go wrong with and looks really good. Fleece leggings underneath pants and skirts, and if that's too warm but I still need another layer then stockings are a good alternative. Wool socks under boots are a must. I have a pair of earmuffs in white color and I did not want to buy any other color because I think white looks the cutest, like little fluffy bunnies.

I have a lot of summer clothes in my wardrobe that I pair with sweaters and cardigans in fall and spring, or even in winters if I later a coat over the outfit.

Make sure to buy a few solid coats and boots that are not only warm but also very stylish, since those are the outermost layer and you will wear them daily in the winter, I love mine and they look good on everything so I feel great. I think you should not settle with boring or ugly pieces that you know you will carry with you everyday. It applies to other things as well if you carry a backpack daily might as well get one that looks really nice.

Watch a couple of Hallmark movies. Also @snowedin pretty much nailed it. Our homes and business are warmer inside than they are in warmer climates. You'd probably complain more about it being to warm in a colder climate unless you stayed outdoors.

Well I was suffering yesterday from the 37 C temperature and the 900 W/m2 solar radiation but I have worked in a couple of cold countries during winter.

The girls in Dusseldorf went to the underground to dress skimpy and promenade. In Toronto here was a sort of shopping mall underground and ditto. I was in desperate need of warm socks at the time. So I wondered what girls do when it is time to go home.

A factor is that whilst is cold there can be no wind and I was happily walking around in shirt sleeves at times despite the low thermometer reading.

A lot of it has to do with how long you'll be out in the cold. In most cases (even in the cities) you're not really out that long. Like, house (or apartment, hotel, etc.) to car or down the street to the subway, then from subway to destination (or car right inside). So, in your crop top example, maybe that gets paired with a fun fake-fur jacket that covers skin until you get inside to take it off.

The other way is stylish coats and jackets. It's a whole industry.

What is considered fashionable in one place, may not be in another. And cold is relative. The people who live in cold weather feel it less than you but there can be cultural reasons why you won't see people dressing skimpy outdoors like maybe they don't spend most of their time trying to be seen by others outdoors so there's no point. Or maybe they don't want to look like desperate street hookers or something.

People do not dress skimpy, but it is not that difficult to look fashionable and cute in an outfit if you know how to coordinate the colors of say a scarf and coat with a sweater underneath to the type of pants and boots you are wearing. The important thing for staying warm is to wear the correct amount of layers for how cold it is, because the layers trap air in the outfit which acts as a buffer to the cold air around you

I live in Canada and it gets really cold but a lot of people get kinda used to it and are able to dress in a little less clothing. I don’t think a lot of people dress skimpy tho

I went to NYC at Christmas. It was freezing. I took cashmere sweaters, warm coats, cashmere cap, mittens and long-silk, skiing leggings.

I think people just get used to the weather. The people adjust to the environment so does their fashion sense.
