layers, so if/as you get warm you can start shedding clothes.
Also wear good comfortable boots, to keep your feet warm and dry.
You can carry your shoes with you.
it's better than falling and getting hurt.
I will start off with a t shirt, then a long sleeved shirt, followed up by a zip up thin sweat shirt, then my duty sweatshirt, and my highly fashionable green safety coat with the reflective stripes.
when it gets below zero, then I bring out the specialty underwear, that helps keep you warm, there is a lot of high tech stuff out there, and my flannel lined bluejeans, and to top it off my electricly heated vest.
It will last 8 hours on low, 6 hours on medium or 4 hours on high.
I can recharge it if I need to.
Our bunker gear is also insulated from the ehat, so it also helps keep you warm, so does the fire, but people ecpect you to put those out.
get wet and frozen, that is a different story, and at 20 or more below zero, you will just be cold esp if it is windy.

Having good thermal socks and a warm pair of boots is key. You have to dress in such a way that you lose as little body heat as possible. Dress in layers and try to use material that will wick moisture away from your body. If you have to, wear a knitted hat. You lose a lot of body heat through your head.
First you NEED a base layer, Uniqlo heattech is cheap! Get the extra warm.
Then you should probably get snow pants, you will be so much more comfortable!
Then on top a fleece or hoodie over the heattech is fine, as long as you have a nice parka, ideally a goose down (but they can be expensive!)
Wear a scarf, hat and mittens, and warm winter boots.
This would work
You want something breathable next to your skin followed by something insulating then something waterproof. If i were you I'd go to a shop that sells hiking/fishing/outdoor equipment and tell them exactly what you need clothes for.
