How can looks be relative?

Question

Some people say that looks are relative, but how can that be, when, aren't most people ATTRACTED to young (youth), symmetrical faces with good, healthy-looking bodies? ! And yes, obviously they say that equals good fertility (usually). So again, HOW is that relative? ? !

Oh and, I want to add symmetrical bodies too, like maybe even hourglass shape or certain waist to hip ratios. This, I am deducing from common sense is what the general public likes or is into! ? ! ?

And I'm not mad even though it sounds like it lol. Just being genuinely curious.

Well sure, a lot of people like skinny right now. Says it's "good fertility" ok. But in the past a lot of people liked chubby. Meant you had money and were healthy. Same as how when people went from saying pale is best to tan is best, or from saying clean shaven is best to a mustache is to a short beard is. It changes over time.

And, not everyone agrees. This is all from one culture. In one, straight teeth are attractive. In another, crooked teeth are. Etc. And where I live most men like long hair, but I among those who like short hair.

There are some things that are usually constants, like height. In general, everybody likes tall people. But still, sometimes and some people like short best. Almost nothing is 100% constant in the grand scheme of attractiveness.

It is relative, but only if you take the whole world into account, and not just the majority in one culture at one point in time.

Perhaps what it refers to is relative attractiveness. Attraction is NOT based on looks ONLY. For example, the world is full of good-looking people who are unattractive and even ugly!

I think it comes down to comparisons, right? So when people say looks are relative, they're not discounting what you pointed out above, I think, as much as either pointing out that in comparison someone's always worse looking  or  they're trying to soften a blow. Or I'm clueless, but that's where my mind is at on this one.

It's relative as what may be beautiful to one person, may be ugly to another. Youth and "symmetrical" features may be sterile and abusive.

You read about drama and the abuse celebrities or other "beautiful" people go through each day. You really think it's not a sort of hell for them at the best of times?

Seems you're the shallow type anyway. looks don't mean jack shit if you're crazy and unhappy.

MOST, is a relative concept by itself... and then, everything else is subjective as well

most... could be either 60%, 72%, 80%

but not all of them... so there is always a chance for variability, and that makes it relative to the many factors involved, references as well

Yes, there are attributes that the majority find attractive. Mostly related to health so they will support breeding. However , people have many different ideas on what is attractive and what is not.
