I have a lacquered wood-handled boar bristle brush that I've had for almost 30 years. lol I only use it when I trim my hair or beard, so I don't wash it as often as an everyday brush, but all I do is run it under warm water and add a drop of dish soap, scrub it really well, shake/scrub as much water from the bristles as possible, and then let it air dry. It still looks shiny and brand new after all these years.
I don't think you need to replace a brush unless several of the tines are broken or the little nibs on the ends have worn/fallen off. Otherwise, just remove any hair from it and clean it with soap and water.
