So I saw that dumb news on the phone and it was a bunch of titles I’m mid size and I did a clothing haul at target and nothing fit. Etc
To me there was nothing logically mid size about these women they were objectively obese, is this a new word for plus size or an American thing?

It's a dangerous thing to normalize being unhealthy, it sends the wrong message when it comes to health. It is also a bit scary that people don't really know exactly what is healthy and what is average. But for that matter what it actually means the word average. The BMI (body mass index) is an indicator not the rule. But you put in your high and weight and it will tell you if you have a healthy weight compared to your height. Green and yellow are considered average and healthy to health ish. Everything over or under is unhealthy. But the BMI calculator don't take to account if you have something chronic going on. It also don't take into account if your a body builder, because a body builder can often be in the red, but is the body builder fat because if it? No they are not. Also speaking about muscles, an average person don't have lots of muscle showing, they are lean but not cut as an action hero.
Cut to the point, mid size is chubby but not fat. It's the next step away from average.
Mid-size means inbetween average and plus size, so this would be considered mid-size:
It means "lots of cushion for pushin' ".
