The word dungeree comes from the indian dungri. They evolved from a type of workwear to a type of fashion. But when you think of dungerees what springs to mind?

The 1970s... just like in Dazed and Confused.

30 years ago when this movie came out, I was sitting by myself in a dark movie theater at the mall in Torrance California, sat back and watched this opening sequence, and felt right at home.

What I'm reminded of is finding the word "dungarees" in children's books in the early 1960s.

The books may have been written in the 40s or 50s, possibly.

As kids, we found it to be a strange sounding word.

It still sounds strange to me.

"Dungarees" seems to be a whole lot of tongue-wagging just to say "jeans".

I just noticed the overalls connection between the pictures.
My part of the world never considered dungarees to be overalls, just waist-high, long-legged work trousers.

They make me think of farmers. But women who wear them without shirts look hot af.
