Are movies about gals becoming “prettier” and then finding love sexist or realist?

Based a bit off Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew or George Bernard Shaw’s My Fair Lady… Movies like Miss Congeniality & She’s All That- Are they sexist or realist?

Realist: You're not gonna find romance if you don’t try to look as attractive as possible. Obviously go with your self expression and personality, but there are standards right?

Sexist: Oh of course after you become hot let’s bang! But not before when you’re a frog! Eww!
