Average fit but it really depends on his body type I guess. My boyfriend is average on the slim side so average fit fits him best.

I voted average, but I wear bootcut jeans, which are fitted (but not tight) through the thigh with a more relaxed fit in the lower leg. Something similar to the ones pictured below. Body type can be a determining factor too, but I've just never been into the skinny/slim/straight leg look. But I do a lot of walking, cycling and hiking, so my quads need a little extra room.
