Why people get mad when I don't wear socks?

I grew up in Bali because of my parents job and I arrived in Europe at the age of 18. In Bali I used to only wear flip flops and it was a shock to wear closed shoes here. I never got used to wearing socks so I dicided to not wear them anymore.

People hate that. Why?

Because socks are easier to clean than shoes so when you sweat into your socks, your shoes don't smell as bad as when you're sweating directly into your shoes.

If you're talking about sandals, there's no cause to wear socks with sandals so I can't imagine what they're on about.

A lot of people think it's gross, because it makes your feet sweaty and stinky and also, European people in general are very judgmental when it comes to clothing. In the U. S. people might have their opinions, bur won't say them to your face.

Then you already have an answer to your question. Why do you think the people you hang out with would love your "a bit stinky" feet? They'd react the same if you didn't wear deodorant/antipersperant.
