I’ve really never thought about getting one but some friends of mine have said after they got their first one, they seemed to become addicted. Some have several and want many more. I’m curious how it starts? Do you just decide to get one for a special reason, then have a hard time stopping?
+1 yI'd have to think that getting a tattoo, especially one that takes up a large portion of one of your limbs or torso, might lead to decision to add more artwork to the original. You could also simply compare it to other ways that our society tends to spend money, we start with a new hobby, or a new favorite product, and we traditionally add more of the same or add other products that enhance our enjoyment of the original (Legos, sewing, cycling in our home)

I’m addicted to buying Longaberger baskets. I just have to complete the set otherwise they just look funny. It’s a gimmick! Lol A lot of truth to what you say, people get addicted to plastic surgery, to the point they no longer look human!
- +1 y
I've heard of those baskets, but I don't think we own any. Maybe you should give Wally a set, with mirrors in the bottom, so he can admire himself after a nice picnic. :-)

Per your update: that is beautiful

@Beckybooboo. This is a much better addition.

I cried all the way home! I am a sissy. I would have never asked her if it wasn’t for my question, so I just had to ask.
- +1 y
Nothing wrong with crying at all. That was a beautiful tribute to her father.

I thought it was gonna be her child’s first heart beats but it’s just as special. Yes, Becky, I’m thinking it would be hard not to be emotional, especially for you. You have a such a big heart.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI don't have tattoos but the very few people I know in real life that have tattoos always went back for more. I don't know if that's addiction.
they're not overly tattooed where you can't see their skin, some you can't tell unless they remove a shirt or something but the fact that one was not enough is telling that there' something there that makes you want more, no necessarily addiction per say but definitely something very similar. Maybe it depends on how much you like the way it looks on you that makes you want more and then that's when it might become an addiction?10 Reply
u +1 yI’ve never thought of it as an addiction. When I was in my teens, I wanted to get tattoos and I made a full plan of what tattoos I wanted and where I wanted them. I followed through with my plan as soon as I turned 18. I’ve mostly finished my plan now, I have 2 more tattoos in that plan that I’ve yet to get, but I don’t plan on getting them anytime soon as they’re not a priority. And once I’ve gotten all of the tattoos that I’ve planned to get, I don’t believe that I’ll get more.

It has where I started represented by the color of the helmet and the wood handled axe, and where I am today represented by the color of the shield on the helmet that has our department number in it. Each point of the flames has a special meaning, an event or a life saved.
I should have it updated, but I'm afraid that the next artist might mess it up, so I may just leave it alone.00 Reply

+1 yI have actually heard that too. I have a cousin that got one three years ago, when he came to visit me, now he has over fifteen. He got it because his girlfriend always wanted him to, so one night we got drunk and he got one.

Was is girlfriend with him?
- +1 y
No, it was actually gonna be a bday present for her but I guess it went over like a lead balloon. She was pissed at the artistry, said he should have told her and she would have taken him to her tattoo artist. Just another example of a guy not doing anything right!
- +1 y
Well, I can kind of agree with her. I mean, you want it to look nice but it was a nice thought on his part.
- +1 y
I don’t think it was that big of a deal, she just wish he discussed it with her but then it wouldn’t have been a surprise. You chicks want it both ways! “you never surprise me or do something spontaneous and romantic”, “You should discuss something like this before you do it”!
- +1 y
Oh, Waldo, we don’t want it both ways, we only want it our way. Talk to you tomorrow! 😘
+1 yI can't really say, I don't have a single one. But people can get addicted to anything lol

+1 yI have a few small ones. I went with a friend when she got her first one and I intended to get one that day but wasn’t satisfied with the concept. So I left to give it more consideration. But I definitely felt slightly withdrawn about not getting something. Like the excitement of it and then not getting it.
So I don’t know that it’s addicting for me but I can see how it might become that way for some people.00 Reply
+1 yI thought about getting one or two in the past. But I don’t have anything meaningful to tattoo on myself and I’m a bit of a perfectionist so if it didn’t turn out how I imagined or I changed my mind it would drive me crazy. Way too often they end up looking trashy in my opinion and I got other vices to worry about.

+1 yI can’t say I’m addicted as I have 3 but they are small and have only gotten them throughout several years. I guess I have plans what I want to get now but nothing over the top.

+1 yAbsolutely. I started with a large shoulder piece. Now I have a full sleeve and the other sleeve is in progress. Eventually I'll do at least a half body suit.

I got my first one when my dad passed. He was an aquarist so the tattoo is of two octopuses (octopi) representing farther and son.

*father. I really can spell..
- +1 y
That’s what I hear from my friends. It starts with a meaningful tattoo, then sort of spirals from there. It’s actually a beautiful gesture in remembrance of someone.
- +1 y
Thanks. I think so too. The thing is, tattoos are not just visual, they change how you feel. Sort of like when you re-decorate your living space. Looks different, but feels completely different too. I think that's part of the addiction.

+1 yNot really for me. I have 2 and I can say that while I do want 2 or potentially 3 more, I will stop at that definitely. I just have a picture in my head of myself and I want to complete it. I've had the same picture in my head since 20.
