Why does a guy’s swimsuit operate like shorts but a woman’s is like underwear?

I notice a man’s bathing suit is like shorts. A lot of them even were boxers/underwear under them. It’s usually no shorter than maybe a couple inches above the knee and they can where them around like a regular pair of shorts. But for girls bathing suits are like underwear. I mean sure the material is different but we wear them under our clothes like underwear, they have the same coverage as underwear and we’re completely nude under them like underwear? How did this become the norm?

It’s true. And most girls like it this way. Women’s physical beauty is a commodity so the more they can use it, the more of an advantage they gain. And they definitely wouldn’t want to share the spotlight with men. They want men to stick with money and status as their commodity. Also you probably won’t get a lot of responses from women here on this question. Many of them won’t like to admit this reality. Many women tell me that shirtless men is an equivalent when swim trunks still have way more fabric than bikinis these days. Also if you go on lots of forums, women say seeing a shirtless guy does absolutely nothing for them. If she finds one attractive, it’s because she liked him before he took off his shirt.

Yep, exactly. Bikinis are basically underwear. They're getting skimpier and skimpier too.

But I have seen a resurgence of more modest swimwear. A lot of girls are wearing swim skirts, board shorts, and rashguards or one pieces now.

Actually you make a great point.
I believe it has to do with ‘anatomy’.

Our anatomy hangs out and protrudes so, maybe by having it as a short it is better than a tight brief especially in water also it allows for underwear underneath for extra support of the ‘male anatomy’.

There are garments called ‘swim jockstraps’ which is used for male swimmers to have extra support and the shorts conceal this & allow for more room to allow better movement of legs with underwear underneath. Honestly, there should be more female options to include shorts if they really want them and not just force ‘underwear look alikes’.

That’s true, but guys can do the same. I was on swim teams since I was 15 and took a liking to speedos. You can wear a speedo under clothes like underwear.
I typically do that on vacations…. for example if you are hiking and hit a beach or watering hole you can easily take your clothes off and go for a swim in your “underwear”

It's whatever markets the most. Banana hammocks aren't what most people in the west find the most aesthetic for men. Shorts swim trunks tend to look better and masculine. As for women, bikinis that show more skin will always draw in more attention from men than conservative stuff and whether women admit it or not, most of them like the attention they get at the beach when they wear a sexy swimsuit. It won't change anytime soon.

I personally think the dynamic is fine as it is right now.

When I’m in water, my shorts always want to slip down. Because of the poor design, the weight of the water pulling them down. So I wear underwear underneath board shorts due to fear of being naked in public. But you want to just checkout guys, just sleep with them. We’ll show you everything.

Good question! I often found it funny when a woman covers herself up and says, I'm in my underwear but then wears a bathing suit that even resembles underwear even more! Lol A woman always has it more difficult in regards to societies "norms"! Good question!
