Eh it depends. For more formal occasions I would agree with you, but for more casual occasions it doesn't make much sense. Like it wouldn't make sense to wear an expensive suit just to go to Walmart or Target. Likewise if a woman were to wear an expensive dress and high heels to go to Walmart or Target it also wouldn't make sense.

Men's shorts that go above the knees.

Different areas seem to have different trends in regards to men's shorts length, but my area is definitely exclusively below the knee, knee-length at the absolute shortest.

90's and early 2000's fashion coming back also doesn't help on that front, lol. Those are the time periods that helped popularize long shorts in the first place.

Except for renaissance nobility fashion... we can all agree that shite was ridiculous. Now peasant and traveler fashion is actually a great thing to come back. Comfortable, breathable, and cloaks are warm, and if made properly, waterproof.
