Is it inappropriate to wear a bikini to a bbq/pool party or should I wear a sarong when not at the actual pool area?

ITs a pool party, a bikini should be fine. Adding a sarong is a great idea for the non pool area or while eating etc.
Another Idea would be a loose knitted or sheer summer cardigan just to cover up a bit. Although not good when actually going swimming.

My wife pairs it with a…. scarf? Poncho? Maybe it’s the sarong you mentioned. Then take it off just before you hit the water. Then back on when eating chatting etc.

My wife will bring shorts and a T-shirt to wear when she isn't by the pool. A lot of the girls do. I had to look up sarong! I think that's also a good look. I think a bikini is fine in that situation.

It is usually fine, however a lot depends on who is at the pool, bbq party. Also how revealing the bikini is. Having shorts or a wrap for the lower half is always a good idea.

I should think so it's a pool party. I'd bring a cover up just to be safe for when you're walking around. Maybe bring some shorts and a t-shirt, that's also an option. Whatever makes you comfortable.
