Not at all, though it is old. I live in Southeast US, and many women use the term "darlin" as an affectionate way of saying hello. If you go to a Waffle House restaurant, the waitress will often say, "Darlin', what would you like?"

Nope, I know a couple adopted their granddaughter and named her Darling now she goes by the nickname DD, but that name is on her birth certificate.

I like that shit. It is probably the only "common" nickname that I like. I don't even know why I like it.

  • "Darling" can feel a bit old-fashioned, but that's part of its charm! It has a classic, timeless quality that can make someone feel truly special and cared for. Plus, nicknames are all about personal preference and the unique dynamic you have with the person. If it feels right to you and your partner or friend, go for it! How do you feel about it?

It's not a nickname, it's an endearment. And no, it's not. It's a classic term for someone you feel a certain way about. Just go down south and you'll be "darlinged" till you blush.

It's a Northern English term of endearment...

Quite happy to be old fashioned in this case :)

Not unless you are from the deep south. It's fairly common there.
