Only one person on here calls me dear, no body else ever called me dear. This friend who is elder by few months from me is really proud about it and to address me as the younger one she sometimes calls me 'darling' lol. But both the nicknames are um romantic and remind me of romance novels of 1970's lol but dear is formal word to call out the younger one at the same time.

So it's always older people I guess, does that mean if someone calls me this they are way older?

Not way older, but why will they call you otherwise? Lol, you're an adult male, only an elderly woman will call you. It seems like opposite gender who are elder than you will call this but since you're an adult it seems like an elderly women of at least above 50 will call you that. I'll still a kid so any adult can call me that but then it'll change when I become adult myself. Otherwise your romantic partner can call you that as well or vice versa. I just observed this but of course, exceptions are there.

Will you feel comfortable if your nephew calls you dear? πŸ˜‚ I mean it just seems like that, it's like that. It's like a fact with no explanation.

Maybe not, I don't know how I'd react considering all my family members speak mostly Spanish so it would be a real shocker no lie lol

Ah, I see lol. But still, it'll weird if a kid comes and calls you dear, it's like calling someone elder from you as 'Son' lol.

I haven’t ever used these words to address people. But people have called me that. At a doctors office 😂

Never. Unless maybe it came from someone that cared about me deeply, I'd find it insulting. Same reason I don't call other people "son" or "kid" or any other nickname when I don't know them.

I've never heard these endearment terms used in RL

Most frequently, I hear: sweetie or honey
