Historical "Hidden Pockets" in women's fashion: Ok, so HISTORICALLY (through to the 1900s) women wore "secret pockets" to hide money, keys, and other things from intruders. Actually, one of the most famous instances of this was in the very early 1900s, when the women from the Romanov family were shot down in cold blood... It took several rounds of gunfire to kill the women, which baffled and frightened the soldiers tasked with killing them. And why? Because the young ladies, prompted by their mother, had actually sewn all their most precious gems and jewelry to their bustiers, unwittingly crafting a makeshift armor for themselves... Throughout the 1900s there are still lingering jokes about grannies hiding money in their bra/cleavage... but the truth is that "hidden pockets" have been part of standard women's fashion for countless generations.  Medical reason for "Cotton Patch" in women's panties: Cotton patches are sewn into women's panties primarily because it helps stave off yeast infections. "Pockets" in thongs:  In the present day, the "pocket" you're indicating in your post of multiple thongs is designed for women to shove a discreet little vibrator into... (Surprise!) There may be other reasons, such as the fact that the fabric of the thong would snag if the top of the cotton patch was fully sewn on.

To double the fabric where your labia is, in order to make them less transparent, or to try and prevent that area in your panties from sticking to your labia and revealing the shape of your lady bits. Basically, it is a minimal cameltoe prevention method. Because the first layer of fabric might stick to your labia and get its shape, but the outer layer of fabric won't stick to the first and will remain straight. This is the case for the image on the right. On the left it simply is there to hide your labia, because otherwise it would be clearly visible throughout the mesh/lace of the panties.
