Why do most of us women like jewelry more than most men?

I was having a discussion with a friend (also female). We were talking about the fact that we women love accessories and jewelry so much more than men. Men might wear a watch or ring. We women though have to have coordinated earrings, necklaces, bracelets etc. with almost every outfit. We are not properly dressed unless we have coordinating accessories. Many guys seem to wear anything. Why do we women care so much more about clothes and especially accessories. It seems to have always been this way. Is it innate? What makes us this way? Is it society? Most of us just are this way though.

I would say women generally have a more fine-tuned aesthetic sense than most men in part because of biology and the environment. Women may be more concerned about clothing choice because of appropriateness taught to them by family and society. For example, if a woman is wearing too revealing skin tight clothing it could signal certain assumptions about her person and what she will take and won't take from men. Women therefore become more concerned about what they wear as they do not have brute strength to make up for certain situations wherein its best to cut off all potential thoughts of a man seeing the woman as a target for his depraved sexual fantasies.

Jewelry in a sense gives some appeal to women that isn't overtly sexual but still attractive, so, women make use of it more than men. So, a woman could wear a low cut v-neck with a simple necklace and still appear charming without having to show a lot of skin.

Overtly sexual in public is fish net stockings, low cut skirt, and halter neck top with no shoulders and a cut off above belly button. Mpst people don't dress like this out in public unless they are a prostituute in which case case most men have tuned into that without much conscious thought behind it.

There are some goths and emo who do dress like this but it's usually a lot more apparent with the make up and puffed up hair and additions like spikes, boots, etc.

It's somewhat like grunge but not quite punk style. Usually men can differentiate between the two up close but maybe not from afar.

Women in general like to decorate more than guys.. Look at the typical bachelor's place and then the typical bachelorette's place. The lady's place will be more decorated unless the guy collects things, and then that will dominate rather than the perfect accent painting here and vase there.

That extends to self decoration. Make up, jewelry, a different outfit for each day of the month, shoes, etc.
