Why do people like gold jewelry, I find is so ugly looking?

I've always wanted to know. How many people actually think gold jewelry looks nice? I find is so ugly and tacky. I bet people wear it to show off. Especially that gold look more yellowy. Or when they wear so much of it. Like what are you trying to prove? lol

Any jewelry in excess is tacky. Most of what people wear is costume or fashion jewelry, not real gold. What you see might be something like this:

^This looks like something small and inexpensive. But it is an 18K white gold diamond bracelet, and retails for $25,000.

So, not all gold-looking jewelry is real gold, and not all dainty, feminine jewelry is fake.

@Paul09 Do you mean middle class? A wedding ring could easily be $1K, so I can see that. But, real jewelry from a reputable jeweler does hold its value, as long as it's properly stored and locked up when not in use. So, it's not blowing money as much as it is putting into a different form. It's not quite the same as a brand new BMW, for example. That's a total status symbol.

I don't wear jewelry most of the time, though. It's more in my way than anything! :)

Well it can depend on skin tone or the way the person styles it. I saw a celebrity wearing over 200k worth of gold jewelry and she had managed to make it look extremely tacky/cheap. She layered necklaces of all shapes and did the same with the bracelets. Being minimalist with jewelry can make a significant difference

It's been prized since paleolithic era for many, many reasons. As far as jewelry less is more. I don't wear any. My sweatbis highly acidic and caused skin irritation where gold is. Not even a wedding band.

I find it's always to show off. Not sure why humans need to do so. Gold could be used for more useful things than wearing it. Im not stopping anyone. Just never understood it. Weird human behaviour.
