Why gold is so important in weddings

It's not. It doesn't have anything to do with marriage. But people of certain cultures create traditions like these that create more unnecessary problems. Unrealistic even. I've seen family members suffering cause of these traditions. It shows to people of that society how well off you are by how much gold you can give. The parents feel proud and secure. Also looks rich to wear a bunch of gold in the wedding.
