Facial hair, particularly beards, has often been associated with masculinity, but its importance varies across cultures and time periods. Historically, beards symbolized strength, wisdom, and maturity in many societies, such as ancient Greece and the Viking age. In modern times, the beard has experienced resurgence as a marker of ruggedness and masculinity. However, societal views on masculinity have evolved, with many recognizing that facial hair is a personal choice and not a definitive measure of one's manhood. Grooming preferences, genetics, and personal style also play significant roles in how men express their masculinity today.

Facial hair is definitely seen as a big part of masculinity for a lot of people! Beards can give off that rugged vibe and make a guy look more mature. 😎 Some guys feel like they’re more confident with a beard, and it can totally change their whole look.
But honestly, not every dude needs a beard to be masculine. Plenty of guys rock that clean-shaven look and still have all the manly energy! It’s really just about what works for you. At the end of the day, it’s all about personal style and how you feel, ya know? 🧔💪10 Reply
1 ynot important. I find men with beards are 'usually' trying to compensate for something 🤣 Seems to be a lot of dick measuring when it comes to facial hair on males. i love stubble but hate the beard. To me the beard is honestly really disgusting. Id say It's definitely down to personal preference though as i know plenty of ladies that like it

There's nothing more masculine than facial hair, but most men don't need it and personally I don't like it. It helps if you have a baby face or you're just not masculine in general... if you are masculine, you don't need facial hair.

The importance of facial hair as a sign of masculinity varies across cultures and individual preferences. Beards have traditionally been seen as a symbol of masculinity in some societies, while other places might prioritize clean-shaven looks. Ultimately, it’s a personal choice and can reflect one's style, cultural influences, and personal grooming preferences. What matters is how comfortable and confident a person feels with their appearance. 😊

Masculinity meaning what?
Beard growth is linked to testosterone levels. So higher T equals more beard hair generally. Genetics play a role in it; however, an Asian with higher T than a Caucasian with lower T may still have less facial hair. Testosterone is also correlated with male pattern baldness which is why a lot of guys with beards are also bald.
As for whether or not their personality is masculine? It would depend on the person. I suppose their could be a positive relationship between the two, but I've seen quite a few effeminate bearded guys so...

m 1 yWhat @jojouzumaki said. I see them as a symbol but not an important one.
It's also very dependent on fashion cycles. The current cycle has a positive view on facial hair, while 30 years ago it seemed to be the opposite. Besides, physiologically, facial hair is oddly distributed as many men don't even have facial hair. It's rather discriminative, we even invented facial hair implant to give some to people. Those who REALLY want to participate in the current trend lol11 Reply- 1 y
For my perception only, I see it as the equivalent for makeup, something to play with, shapes altering the perception of my face, for me or for those looking at me. I'd say also that I've seen women praising my hair as a masculine trait so... Such a commentary doesn't go unnoticed for me as it says something about my masculinity perceived from outside, external, perceived from a feminine point of view, so there's that.
Beards in men are like breasts in women, some have a lot, some little or none. Native American men have little or none, but many of them are quite masculine. Asian women often have very small breasts, but I find them very feminine. Masculinity and Femininity are more a matter of perception than physical attributes.

1 yNot really. There will always be girls that prefer guys with it and those that prefer without. There's no "one size fits all" when it comes to attraction or what masculinity looks like.
However, in terms of stats, the majority of women tend to prefer a light stubble on a man.

1 yThat’s a funny question. I say that because some of the most masculine men have or had beards. They made beards cool. But on the other side of the coin, some real shit piles of males think that if they grow a beard they will be as tough or tougher than the next guy. Those dudes are douche bags. They make beards look bad. I personally have boycotted beards.

1 ySome men may say so, yet I think some women would prefer my clean shaven look 🪒👀 lol - each to their own
However, the stereotypical male "bravado" lol probs has hair, muscles, hair everywhere lol
Sort of living in a caveman era, where as I like to be a modern man - whimp or not I may be 😁😏00 ReplyIn my opinion it is not important, there are some men who look good with and some who look good without a beard.
Personally I don't like beard, expecially long one, but it doesn't depend on what my opinion is, but on what a man wants.
Here there are some men who feel less masculine because they lack facial hair, however masculinity is not shown through a beard, not in my opinion at least.10 Reply- 657 opinions shared on Fashion & Beauty topic.
1 yTo every pubescent male - YES!!! To every grown man it's a FUCKING PAIN IN THE ASS TO MAINTAIN and we're just tired of facial shaving and grooming. I mean EXHAUSTED with it. We hate it with the passion of 1000 burning suns! Or maybe that's just me... 😁🤷🏽♂️

What about other hair in a body? They all basically are the same thing.
1 yOf course, because the male lion has a mane, therefore the male human being has a beard. Generally, male creatures are sexual organisms, of course. (Some parthenocarpic creatures are female creatures.)
00 ReplyI tend to experience masculinity through somebodies actions rather than the way they look. That's more important to me..

1 yIt adds to it but i wouldn't say it's that important, more important is how you act, talk, treat others and how you take care of yourself.
00 ReplyI would not say it is important in general, although my personal preference is for a man will a well kept beard.
00 ReplyI wear a beard most of the time but funny enough I shaved it off this morning left just the stach I don’t think it makes me any less masculine

1 yIt really can be. I've had a beard my whole adult life. But it's about expressing your culture and personality, so it's not for everyone. Some men have a great jawline and might want to show it off instead.

1 yIn my opinion, it depends on the face structure. Facial hair can benefit faces with softer look, like baby face. But on sharp masculine jawline I prefer clean shaved.
