Technically both. Objects in physical space have three dimensions length, width, and height. Your eyes seeing a reflection from two separate angles gives your brain more information about that 3D object than the single eye of a camera, but neither give you a total 3D scan of the object based on a look from a single direction. That said, some brains are better than other brains when it comes to thinking in 3D and as a result they can live a more accurate reality. You see this in dyslexic people with high IQs who possess phenomenal spatial reasoning. Either way a 2D image in a 3D world is a lie, and regardless of if a lie is big or small it's still a lie.

Ever since the iPhone 11, Apple has introduced a lot of post-processing effects on all of their devices, for which the user has no input or ability to disable. So, at the very least, no iPhone made in the last 4 years takes truly unfiltered/unprocessed pictures. If you're not using an Apple device, I seriously doubt the competition is much different. We've already mostly hit the limits of what optical micro-telescopic photography can do; most of the advancements in smartphone cameras nowadays are done in software.

Meanwhile, the mirror simply inverts your image over the Y-axis, but it doesn't actually alter the image in any way.

Camera & Mirror tbh….

If the lighting is harsh we see things that aren’t there and the camera definitely doesn’t capture our true selves.

I believe it is our mindset that lies to us, thinking we aren’t good enough / look good enough…. I no longer feel insecure about my looks, I say “this is me, I’m alright”. I don’t have to be perfect or stand out, though I do need to take care of my body because it is a body worth maintaining and up-keeping…. I don't know that is how I see this topic in myself.

The camera lies because it adds 10 pounds, flattens your face, widens your face, it even messes up you skin tone... it basically distorts your features. The mirror lies because it shows you the flipped version of yourself. The true mirror shows you how others see you. This is the only way you can see how others see you.

The camera is lying. Mirrors show your face slightly more from a 3d perspective which makes it more natural. In pictures, you can have a bad angle, shiny face, weird expression etc. Many things can distort reality.

I think the camera. I mean, it shows you differently in a photo than when you look in the mirror. I look better in the mirror, and nothing can change my mind.
