1 yWhether it's acceptable for a man to shave his legs is a matter of personal preference and cultural norms, not a strict rule. There is no definitive right or wrong answer. Some men shave their legs for various reasons, including personal preference, hygiene, or to feel more comfortable, while others may prefer to keep their leg hair.
Here's a more detailed look:
Why some men shave their legs:
Personal preference:
Some men simply prefer the look and feel of smooth legs.
Hygiene:
Shaving can help prevent leg hair from trapping sweat and odor, according to NIVEA.
Appearance:
Shaving can make legs look more sculpted and defined, especially for men who are physically fit.
Practical reasons:
Shaving can make it easier to apply sunscreen and lotions, and it can also reduce chafing from friction, according to Wilkinson Sword.
Social pressure:
Some men may shave their legs to conform to social expectations or trends, according to Men's Health.
Why some men choose not to shave their legs:
Personal preference: Some men simply prefer the natural look and feel of their leg hair.
Social stigma: Some men may feel pressure to keep their leg hair, fearing it might be seen as feminine or "girly," according to Quora.
Practical concerns: Shaving can require more maintenance and may be more time-consuming than leaving leg hair alone.
Lack of cultural norms: In some cultures, shaving leg hair is not a common practice for men.10 Reply

Cyclists and speedskaters do it since injuries with hairy legs are more easily infected and the clothing worn on the ice pulls at the hair. I think swimmers do it too

No, athletes do it cause it's in their contract. Everyone you see in the media is either hired under contract or through an agency. The standard Media Contract states that you have to clean off your hair. In other words, they pay people to shave their body hair. Which means, Hair is worth Big Money. Nobody should clean it off unless they are being paid to do so.
Hair does not cause infections, you are not smarter than nature. - 1 y
@Quigly Funny how my brother a cyclist and speedskater did it, guy's I know who cycle at a high level do it. It's wholly because of infection and recovery. Crap collected on hair that gets involved in wounds is covered in all sorts of shit that makes it more difficult to clean and greater risk of infection. Swimmers also have more streamlined form when shaved

Contamination on hair is no different than contamination on skin. It's the same contamination In the same area. Just because you got rid of hair doesn't make you less prone to infection which is more likely from skin contamination. This is why they make disinfection wipes and you are much better off as a cyclist carrying a medical pack with disinfection wipes and leave the hair alone.
Hair keeps you cool on bike rides. It causes turbulence around the skin area that evaporates sweat more efficiently. - 1 y
@Quigly All land mammals have fur. That's got to be one of the dumbest defences of a wrong position in ages. It is from the actual people doing it and they'd know because they've been there, done that and found out from the school of hard knocks that this is something that makes the injuries they get less bad.
1 ySome men do this. Why, I don't know. Fashion?
I think men having hairy legs is sexy and sort of delineates men from women.
Leg shaving is time consuming and you can cut yourself and it only lasts a few days. Seems pointless on someone with lots of leg hair.10 Reply

Absolutely! Men can shave their legs if they want. It's all about personal preference and comfort. Whether it's for sports, aesthetics, or personal style, it's entirely up to the individual. Embracing what makes you feel good and expressing yourself authentically is what matters most. 😊

1 yDepends on what you mean by "acceptable."
It's not morally wrong or anything, and it's not hurting anyone.
But depending on where you live a lot of people might be against it. Especially if you live in a homophobic area, where shaving legs is associated with gay people, and it might give you trouble with that.
And a lot of people who are attracted to men don't like men with shaved legs. Straight women and gay men usually don't like shaved legs on guys. Though bisexual and/or pansexual people might be more open to it.
But beyond that, if those things listed above are non-issues for you, then just go for it!
10 ReplyDepends on the reason. Hair is natural and keeps you cool in the hot weather. That's why you have hair on top of your head to keep your head cool.
The Beach Body was a ridiculous trend that began in the 80's and has long been out of style. Most women prefer something more like a guy.
If you're a guy, Hair makes you look more mature and masculine. It makes you look confident with who you are and that comes across.

1 ySoccer players and other athletes do it, because it hurts less to pull the tape off your legs if you have no hair.

1 yAbsolutely. Mens leg hairs can get long and then pull when sitting or wearing clothes. Plus, it's good to expose the skin every once in a while, it toughens it up.
