If I get an e-bike, should I also consider buying body armor meant for motorcyclists?

I live in an area where there's so many crazy drivers, that even with my helmet and pads (knee, elbow, wrist), I still don't quite feel safe. I'd go for armor that protects the chest, abdomen, back, and shoulders. Extending to the limbs are great, but it'll be too expensive and not practical during the spring and summer.

There is some great body armor out there. But you're right, with any protection level you'd be happy with, it's hot and sweaty. It also limits your mobility. There's also the problem of what to do with it when you get where you're going. I don't wear it most of the time on my motorcycle. The one place I do use it is skiing. I have a D3O foam vest with back and chest protection. I tend to ski some extreme terrain. I've gone down at 70+ mph with no injuries.

Maybe not a whole set of motorcycle leathers but I would recommend the explosive airbag vests you can get. I saw an accident in downtown Stockholm where a pair of cyclists collided and the one with the "airbag" vest was unharmed but the other was injured though both had helmets on. Some basic protection is wise but you may get too hot in summer
