What should I wear on an autumn city date to stay warm and look nice?

It’s Autumn where I live, in Australia. I live in the city. It’s going to be cooler in the evening and I don’t want to get a cold. Should I wear trousers or tight pants? Should I wear layers, or a multicoloured sweater and a light coat?

I haven’t decided what I’m going to do, only that if I end up going, I’d like to look nice, without catching a cold.

Layers is always a good approach. It's almost spring where I live, southern Spain. Temps climb during the day, but nights and mornings can be chilly. Trousers, top or t-shirt, a sweater and a light jacket is all you need.

I've always found that layers work best when it gets cooler.

I would suggest nice trousers with a blouse and sweater, or is it jumper.

Yeah autumn often can be tricky , sometimes it feels warm and comfortable at afternoon but going to evening it start to feel cold , so wearing something that is not too light but warm in case it felt cold can be a nice idea
