What should I wear if I go on a date in summertime?

I have sundresses, a simple black dress, pencil skirts and nice t shirts, or 3/4 pants. I doubt anything really fancy will be necessary. However, finding some middle ground, looking smart casual, would be my best bet. It gets really hot where I live (Australia); so it’s got to be something light, too.
