What do you think of thin beards?

So, I visited my brother today and was surprised to be see that he had styled his facial hair into a thin beard, I think it's called a chin strap beard. He usually wears a full beard at stubble length. Here's a picture similar to what he had, though it might have been a touch thinner than in the picture: link I have heard the thin beard called douchey in TV shows and movies from a few years ago, though supposedly it's not as douchey as the pencil thin beard. I don't keep up with style trends, so I'd like to know, is the average opinion of this facial hair style still that low, or have people's perceptions of it changed in the last few years?

Beards are ugly. The only time I like them is when the guy is attractive and even then he would a ton better clean shaven.
