What does it mean when you get butterflies in your stomach around a person you are only friends with?

There is this guy I'm friends with and he is very nice, sweet and a gentleman. We have been hanging out together every day since we first met. He is always complimenting me, telling me how pretty I am and that I make him smile a lot and when I'm not around he misses me. When we are together I get butterflies in my stomach. Is that a good thing or a bad thing and what does it mean? Also should I tell him he does that to me? We aren't dating and we are just friends. I thought you only got that feeling when you dated someone? Now I don't know what to think and take the feeling the wrong way because he may not feel exactly the same or I don't know. What does it all mean?

This one guy who is your friend who gives you "butterflies" may be the only guy who actually makes you feel comfortable with. You can either risk your friendship and engage it as a couple or awkwardness, your call. Don't live with regrets.

Well I shouldn't say risk since people can still technically be friends after rejection it's just very slim and not the same to my eyes.
