Guys, I recently confessed to my crush and he said he was flattered?

Last night i confessed to him over text, and i kind of said i 'used' to like him just so it wouldn't be more awkward if he rejected me. He just told me he was flattered and that no one ever liked him before, and i was so shy to ask him if he ever liked me. If he tells me he was flattered does that mean he never actually liked me?

it might mean that he's not interested and he's just being polite. but if you like him you should do it face to face, it can be embarrassing but more likely that he will answer. never soften your confession be honest, i made that mistake once and it has bugged me ever since. try again in person but dont come off as nagging or needy, i guess say that "used to" wasn't correct

That might affect the relationship, so if still possible try letting him know that you actually do like him
